How do you really feel about your airline?

I've been employed by a large airline for over twelve years. I have progressed well, I have a command on a great aircraft and the company is profitable. (even now)
For the last four or five years it has become less and less enjoyable working for them. After each contract negotiation the company drags its feet on implementing the agreed result, that is unless it is of benifit to them and it screws us.
Where there are problems, the company will only apply cheap bandaid fixes which makes the operation at times look less than professional.
If there is some sort of promotion of the company, then all the execs are there and money is not a problem.
There was a time that I would do all I could for the operation, now I do only that which is required for a safe operation. I would defend the company to the hilt with pride, now I am at the point where I would probably just walk away.
So that is how I feel about my company........how do you really feel about yours?!

Seems like most pilots gripe about their jobs... I'd love to hear about pilots happy (or at least content) with their respective positions - and what they like about their airline/equipment. Obviously, pay could always be better - let's take that out of the discussion if possible...

Cheers

Lavdumperer I have to agree with you about pilots having a bitch about things now and then, however in my 18 years with airlines I have not felt dissapointed with my employer until now.

Commanding a bad aircraft, working for a bad company, making no money,in a bad country..a bad nightmare! If there will be no change in the near future i will leave and go back to the military.

Strange enough I was actually thinking about going back to military as well... Leaving it at a thought for the time being.

There is an old, old saying that probably dates back to the post war years in the airline industry.......

Tell a pilot you work for a different company, and he will tell you how much better yours is.

Very true, even in the 21st century

On the topic: After my airline went bust and being unemployed for nearly a year with a young family, l am more than happy with my lot.

1. To have job that pays well
2. Flying new wide body aircraft
3. In a town that is great for the family
4. Seeing the world

After six years of short haul, and commuters before that, this long haul stuff is fantastic.

If i would tell a pilot about my company and the conditions here,he would puke and shake his head in disbelief.

I was very unhappy in the last year with my ex company because of the way my collegues and I were treated. I was fortunate enough to be able to return to my old company in Europe within a month and ready to fly again within 2 weeks. I must say it was/is a gamble but I am very happy I made the change. I think everyone can guess were I came from by my username. It's home sweet home for me now:ok:

There was this story about a fella who had a tree in his yard which was a gathering place for monkeys.
He put an add in the paper to get someone to get rid of said monkeys.
A pilot turned up and got the job, went down and sat at the base of the tree, the monkeys came and sat around.
The monkeys were seen to cry, then laugh and then run away.

Asked how he did that so quickly he said,

To make them cry I said I worked for XXX Airline.
To make them laugh I told them how much I wasa paid
To make them run away, I said we were recruiting.

Works for me.

thoughts from big red

we need a poet laureate on pprune......so

was once a job to dream of,
an achievement worth the pain,
thru hanger floors we've slept on,
as hour by hour we gained,

from single vfr,
to cfi we trod,
then ifr and multi,
continued with our plod,

and thru the cruel commuters,
who punished us month by month,
with schedules no sane soul dare go for,
except our crazy bunch,

who stuck it through the rough stuff,
give up? but ye must jest,
our sights were clearly set sir,
apoun those glorious jets,

and when that day arrived,
we counted not the years,
but relished in the glory,
our smiles our joy our tears,

of knowing that we made it,
to a seat among the clouds,
and eagarly we waited,
and oh we were so proud,

we waited for the promise,
of being financially secure,
to plan and have a future,
a house a car for sure!

coz now were in the majors,
the fairy tale came true,
but now its not the skies alone,
that seem simply blue,

sold out by our brothers,
laid off by the hoard,
labor takes the back seat,
management runs the board,

september was the month,
wall street was the place,
dallas did debbie!
alpa made no case,

and so the spell twas broken,
the innosence lost with pain,
the scattered family thrown,
out to look again,

for 3 5 0 or higher,
or even 2 2 0,
just off the ground for sometime,
please not agl of zero!

and looking back we all,
realise what we had,
and look at whats in place now
its really really sad,

perhaps you all agree folks,
that airlines are but gone,
and left are just accountants,
who really get it wrong,

perhaps that how it must be,
as the system works its scam,
our industry is about folks though,
not just a finaincial plan!

and so I'll leave you thinking,
as you lift and climb away,
savor all your time up there,
before its taken away,
