It varies by country, (the Italians did well), and for a while, membership went well above 50%, but by and large it was the unions themselves that alienated a large chunk of their membership right from the outset, and membership has dropped massively. And yes, the "self employed" felt mostly unrepresented (not really applicable to France SFAIK, and yes there's Malta, lauda etc, but unions are a national thing anyway)

Nasty .
Sounds like BA. Sad day when companies go to these lengths to shaft their employees.

Don't come looking to the rest of us for sympathy when the chickens come home to roost. It's like the expat pilots crying foul in the Saudi thread, it's all good in the boom times and screw everyone else, until it isn't.
And there he/she is again bashing the Ryanair Pilots. Many of your colleagues in your precious and wonderful Jet2 are ex Ryanair but I bet you keep your mouth firmly shut when your sitting beside them. I wonder will there be 102 UK pilot redundancies in Ryanair in the coming weeks. Sad times for anyone being made redundant or indeed taking a significant pay cut. And yet still the same vitriolic rhetoric coming from keyboard toads such as yourself. Give it a rest for goodness sake!

Actually, it's, at least 102 jet2 pilot redundancies. I think karma might be coming for you, whitemonk, but then you did kind of pull its tail.

And this is one of the problems we have in this industry, people like Whitemonk are quick to jump to the defense of their employer while belittleing everyone else's, remember people your employer will have no loyalty to you.
It is rather sad what appears to be happening at Jet2, their future is far from safe, I have been informed by some one very much in the know, that the plan is to concentrate on low cost flights for the rest of 2020 and push the holidays 2021, there is a lot of goodwill from the public towards Jet2, they do offer a very good service and were quick to refund when the crisis hit.

I'm open about how I feel about RYR and Norweigen, you don't have to agree with me, but I have a right to express my opinion. RYR make themselves easy to unlike, and a large portion of their fanboy flight deck also. It is sad but unsurprising listening to the RYR lurkers jump out of the closet at the first sign of bad news at Jet2.

For the record and maybe to help that chip off your shoulders, the redundancies are proposed and not certain. The level of communication from upper levels throughout this crisis has been IMHO very poor and some of the leadership frankly embarrassing, anyway I digress, I hope you lot are able to fight your proposed pay cuts until 2024, but I won't hold my breath.

I have some good friends employed at J2. They are very critical of management due to the level of communication. In fact they are devoid of any and as with many airline personnel feel like the old saying of being mushrooms, with one exception, not being fed anything. This being a FR thread I will now withdraw.

You're friends are spot on. 24 hours later and still no one has had the balls to say anything. I'm out too, I have no idea why the fan boys decided to attack me in a RYR thread, they can do it in the J2 thread any time they like.

Sorry to burst your bubble Whitemonk, I am not a Ryanair or Norweigen Fanboy, I have no affiliation to either, I really do hope that Jet2 are fine, I would genuinely hate to see anyone lose their jobs, especially in such circumstances. I truly hope the 'proposed' redundancies are just that, but in my experience I seriously doubt it, if I can help anyone I will, even you. You opinions are rather polarised towards Jet2, yes of course you are entitled to it, as well as I. Here is my opinion, the lack of communication from on high, selling the haulage business, word's from those in the know, that for the rest of 2020 to focus on low cost fares, good luck against Ryanair, hoping that 2021 will see a resurgence, is a bit like a bird in a gale, I fear this is just the start, 102 Pilots and 380 Cabin Crew, I feel sorry for them.

Its funny, the majority of flight and cabin crew I speak to are pretty good people, some from all airlines feel they are better than others, sadly some of the guys at Jet2 I have come across, seem to feel they are better than the rest of us. I hate to say it, we all are just worker bees.

I wish you and Jet2 the very best, you'll need it
