What now for Thomas Cook
Wonder what Monday morning will bring, the company was worth saving but the banks have chosen to let it fair. By all accounts a restructuring plan was in place.

I feel for my ex colleagues. Perhaps the saddest thing is that thanks to the double-edged sword that is seniority, some people will never hold a captain position at their preferred airport/base ever again. TUI and EasyJet are really the only employers at the smaller UK airports and they have seniority lists where the wait to command is [a very long time].

EasyJet does not have a seniority list. It has waiting lists for transfers on a first come first served basis.
DEC into main bases has always been possible, but obviously you cannot think to join as a Captain in the most popular bases, rightfully so if I may add.

Commands in easyJet are still relatively speaking fast, perhaps around 2 and a bit years or so if coming in with experience. Getting the base you want might be a different story however these things sometimes change very fast.
Nevertheless sad news this morning..... I guess best thing that could happen in this situation is if parts of the TC operation is picked up by other companies.

unfortunately I think the ME will be the destination for a fair few if they want to continue with a LH command.

There's always work out there for experienced drivers. The willingness and or ability to relocate overseas is the hard part. It's also going to be very tough going from working for a blue chip employer, so to speak, to being a contractor. My very sincerest commiserations to all at TC.

Trouble is, who would risk taking it over on the basis that all the senior management were removed and that there would still sufficient skill and knowledge to resolve the issues and bring it back to profitability in a short time? Looking at the BBC website and the half-yearly figures reported over the past few years, there is a dramatic plunge in financial performance over this year. So what happened and why, were there no warning signs to The Board and why was no drastic action taken to try to halt the plunge downwards? Were those at the top just taking as much as they could, aware that the inevitable was going to happen soon?

For any TC guys and girls reading this, I've seen a post from Wizz on my Facebook feed this afternoon. Probably won't interest Captains, but likely will interest Senior SFOs. I don't work for Wizz, but heave heard there is usually the opportunity of DEC with rapid upgrades for rated SFO with enough hours, so for anyone looking for a quick command before moving elsewhere (or staying, as the pay doesn't look too bad after 3-4 years, better with higher seniority), this may be of significant interest.

People need jobs, Wizz are recruiting on permanent contract with immediate start and decent prospects, it's one of the few carriers where jobs are available at DEC level, there will possibly be some SFO to LHS either straight away or very quickly, it's worth consideration.

Great training at Wizz, very thorough and standardised quite often using TRI/E’s from other airlines. Hard work at times but good prospects with the new aircraft orders in the pipeline. They have one of the lowest operating costs in the business so the company is sound.

If you can get based at Luton you will be working for Wizz Air UK under the UK AOC. As an SFO you can expect to take home around £4k per month (maybe more as you won't have the TR bond to pay).

Deepest sympathy to my friends at TCX, happened to me three times. I joined WZZ as a DEC (previously an SFO) and being LTN based is a decent enough job. The opportunity is there and a job is a job at the end of the day. Try to ignore the negativity, yes it can be hard work, yes the training can be a challenge (they don’t give commands away, despite what some claim) but nothing that folk with the experience of the TCX crews couldn’t deal with.
LTN is a good base, mostly 2 sector days and expansion is ongoing. There are some overnight flights and long turnarounds but show me anywhere that’s perfect. Of course no long haul and unlikely to be any trips to the Caribbean even with the 321LR but it could be a lot worse. As a year 1 Captain, expect around 6.5-7k/month after deductions (including bond repayment), SFO around 4K, made up of basic plus distance and landing pay.
Virgin also recruiting for those wanting long haul although a much longer wait for upgrade.
