LOT Polish Airlines hiring

Heard recently these guys are on a pretty big recruitment drive. Does anybody know what the terms and conditions are like for both FO and Captain?

What are the upgrade times like for experienced pilots and what is the fleet entry point?

I have heard it is across the board but cannot be sure whether you will start on an E190 or DEP onto the 787.

Ugly terms....you have to open a VAT position for first 2 year hourlly pay around 40. Then you will have a contract.
Good atmosphere and good bunch of guys but first 2 year is crap

Most people the last few years were going to Wizzair, and got more money than LOT, that should tell you something.

Seems they will have to change or offer new T&C's as the job market really is opening up. Silly really, you will eventually end up paying one way or another so you may as well save time and make it a well paid and enjoyable work environment.

Last I saw was a little while ago when they were hiring as well for all fleets, but 787 had some requirements like 4000+ total time and X amount above certain weight to filter out at least some applications.

Don’t know about the current conditions, but they’ve obviously been through some chaos recently if you followed the news. The crew I’ve met has been professional and nice people to be around. Warsaw is a pretty nice city, some things are also significantly cheaper in Poland. But there are things to consider like the current government and and overall atmosphere. There are some fairly anti-foreigner (read expat) movements as well (hearsay from Polish colleagues).

Yeah, that’s a useless pay for the guaranteed hours, even considering possible tax “benefits” from the “B2B” contracts.

Let me tell you this is pure BS. I work in international company here in Warsaw, full of Americans, Indians, Russians etc.
There is no difference between now and 5 years ago, unless you follow the news. Real life is not even close to this - regardless of what even Poles are telling you. Complaining about everything and especially about ourselves and our country is our national sport. Think PPRUNE -> full of pilots complaining about being a pilot

The only catch is if you are black you will draw attention on the street as there are now blacks in Poland - similarly to most of Central and Eastern Europe. But again - attention not violence.

Good to have input from someone living there. I did have a negative experience or two as foreigner in Warsaw when having night stops there but didn't feel like it was a consistent issue. I thought I would mention what my colleagues told me, with the "hearsay" disclaimer basically.

Yeah.
But in context of Polish politics there is another issue. While Lot is doing great now, it was for a long time safe haven for 'everybody and his brother' for previous government. I am a bit afraid that it may eventually happen again.
Either way - if I only would have CPL, I would apply to fly their Dash-8

Your comment is right on. After several years with this company I'm looking to get out. The T&C are way below the market. Word of advice: The offer may be interesting for low timers looking to get type rated on turbine aircraft. You may end up flying Q400 even if they tell you that you are intervied for the EMB. There are some limited direct F/O entries for the 787. The company promises them command in a "very short time". Nobody can give you as much as LOT will promise you.

Well by the sounds of it they might have to change the offer if they are losing that many pilots and the markets will always enforce that when the job market is in the pilots favour. In Europe I would not say it is as good as things in the US but is definitely getting a lot better.

LOT will not want a revolving door of pilots coming and going and having to shell out on all those type ratings, time required to train and upgrade people and just their general reputation as an employer.

So I suspect things will change there over the coming 12 to 24 months.

Just my 2 cents worth but outfits with terrible reputations are always forced to change eventually or die, look at RYR.

If anyone is going to a LOT interview then here is some info. My mate just got back from interviewing and told me a few things that were quite interesting.

1. The interview felt more like an interrogation than a professional interview where they get to know you. They questioned every little possible issue in his logbook as if he was some kind of criminal. All his flying and sim time is legit backed up by professional airline references and records yet apparently his logbook is not done correctly according to LOT.

2. The HR lady was asking questions that were very subjective, like what is your motivation for becoming a pilot or joining LOT. When he answered they would start arguing his point by telling him that’s not really a motivation. In other words if you don’t match their answers it must be wrong. Quite stupid questioning really. You also do a technical on jepp plates, taf, meter etc.

3. He applied for 787 and was invited to a 787 interview.. He has 6000 hours total with about 3000 jet and approximately 2600 PIC time. Typed on one of their narrow bodies but when he asked where the 787 TR was done they said it’s a little early to say what jet you would be on. In other words you are experienced on one of our NB’s so we are sending you there.

4. Bases - Warsaw and Budapest. Budapest is small but you can get it. BUD has 1 or 2 787 there and Embraer aircraft. There seems to be no seniority system in place so if you are experienced and ready you leap frog others who joined earlier than you for command etc. Apparently the rosters are just assigned and they try and balance it out for everyone so you all get good, medium and bad schedules mixed in together to keep it fair.

5. PPJN seems to be pretty spot on with regards to salaries. 787 captains can be getting up to 112 Euro per block hour though if over I believe 10,000 hours and a bit less if below. He said 1st year junior captains were on about 90 per hour. FO and CA average about 70 flight hours per month so nobody should be earning less than 4K a month (50k) a year but your cost of living in BUD and WAW is a lot cheaper than Western Europe so you would save every month. Not great money but not bad considering where you would be.

6. Quick upgrade does to be had in as little as 2 years and even less with experience on type. DEC joining on type can expect a 787 in less than 3 years if joining on NB fleet apparently. Of course they need 787 pilots now so you could go straight to the 787 from the get go. 787 TR done in Singapore.

7. Apparently working on a commuting roster as well and will guarantee any 4 days off per month that you would want. He did not say how many days of a month you get in total but I think it is fair to say a safe bet would be to bank on a minimum of 8 and maybe as high as 12.

All in all he said it was an okay experience and good if you want a quick upgrade. Not the dream job but a lot of positives if you don’t plan on staying forever and if you do things will most likely only get better. If living in the CEE is your thing this could be a good option for you. This info is based on one pilots experience so others who went might have completely different take on things.

Effin ridiculous...of course your cost of living is cheaper if you choose to live in one of the crappy areas like every nb/wb cpt does flying for a legacy carrier, right?! These muppets at LOT really need to up their game coz a few 1000 hrs LTC in WZZ makes double that figure.

DF,

This tactic is certainly appearing here in the USA too; if not common, it's not unheard of either even at the legacy level. I don't understand why it's necessary or advantageous to the HR people or airline itself to be abrasive with an applicant.

In some accounts I hear, they even go as far as playing "good cop-bad cop" where one member of the panel will be courteous and another will be abrasive and confrontational. Maybe they're just poking the caged squirrel to see what it takes to make him mad ?

In any event, this tactic is unacceptable. One can only hope they don't accurately represent the character of the airline itself once a person gets away from these pencil jockeys.
