The leisure market will come back strongly in the UK. All I hear from people I come across every day is ‘when can I go on holiday?’. They’re holding off booking because of the uncertainty of the holiday going ahead, not out of fear of the virus.
Of course, this means close to zero cash flow in the meantime. That doesn’t work well in the aviation business. The network will be 20% smaller next summer but if advance bookings improve who knows what will happen to the plans. Maybe the guys laid off will be kept engaged with a view to bringing them back in for the summer 2021. Let’s hope so.

People have short memories.. look at the images in the news today of UK beaches. As soon as this two day summer is over and airbridges are announced I think the flights will fill up.. only time will tell.
I hope Balpa can help minimise the damage and at least give people the right to return if things pick up quicker than expected. Now is the time to all share the pain so that a few individuals dont have their lives turned upside down - for the second time in a year for some.
All the best to everyone.

At the moment travelling is a nightmare, 4 hour check in, no refreshments and no on board services. If you're planning holiday, especially a family holiday, you need the basic facilities open at the airports.
Large numbers of PAX came by National Express to LGW and LHR, that service has stopped and the only parking is short-stay.
Hopefully, after 4th July they may start to open up things and encourage people to travel again, but for many it's too tough at this time.
After the pubs open you can expect the straw-donkey, tattooed boozers, but they must be aware that social distancing may interrupt their plans! We really don't care as long as people pay to fly!

The sector providing short-distance budget leisure travel will recover a lot earlier than the legacy carriers who rely on a premium product geared towards high-end travellers. Moreover, many of those who would have otherwise gone on holiday to Asia, Australia or the Americas will likely prefer to holiday closer to home for the next year, i.e. in Europe. So, hopefully, arrangements will be put into place to allow our colleagues from Jet2 to either switch to part-time temporarily or be re-hired within the next year. It's not impossible and not implausible from an economic perspective if enough good will exists among the decision-makers.

Today we hear that Virgin cannot crew their July flights.
My view is that with each calamity the human race becomes more resilient. This aviation depression will not last half as long as the doomsters reckon it will.

Maybe. Or maybe not. But one thing is for sure, when it does recover, given the amount of time and money it takes to get an experienced captain going, most companies will have coming what they asked for
