The company presented its results for 2018. Negatives of 118 million Euros.

For the government this is very bad. The prime minister António Costa, who was the one who wanted to reverse the process of privatization of the company, had acted , now says nothing.

Portugal already has to put up with a lot, on its" back shoulders", like the NOVO BANCO,due to crape of their managers, and now the Financial minister, came to say that all the taxpayers were going to have to get ahead, with this bank . And now comes to TAP, who will pay this passive? The citizens of course...

The administration sent a statement to the workers explaining what happened.

It was a loss of 3.6% in relation to the previous year.

Increased the network of routes in the North American market the position has been consolidating.

They preferred to change the Lisbon-Porto-Lisbon to jet planes ( AIRBUS 320 and E190) and increased their punctuality to 72%. Therefore the operation with the ATR72 is practically finished. The airplane has many operational limitations, mainly because of LVO.

The TAP accuses that in 2018 the pilots union, negotiations with the pilots led to 2490 flight cancellations. The negotiating context was complex. TAP needed more 122 to fly in the last summer. Now they admitted to many and have difficulties manage the training, so they interrupted the admissions.

The union has already issued a statement to clarify this situation. What was negotiated was that the riders were renumbered with an extra, even in OFF-DAYS and LEAVE -DAYS so, TAP did not have to contract ACMI’s. But some destinations where operated by HIFLY, Recife, Natal in Brasil and Luanda in Angola.

So the pilots saved a lot of money to this company on its operation.

The planes are coming. The first A321NEO LR is coming soon.

Valid MEP is a requirement. And what about those who fly multi crew corporate jet with hours on type but expired MEP for more than 3 years?

New admissions only after summer, who knows!

I don't think it would be an obstcale. If you're flying a corporatejet it is a multi-engine, That point of MEp are for those guys with recente frozen ATPL, that must have MEP.
TAO hired some pilots that where working for other Airlines, and they where admited. So...

There's no way TAP is going to continue hiring before summer and even after, i'd say it will be HIGHLY unlikely.

Way too many people in training or waiting for it, when I say too many IT IS TOO MANY.

Hi WhatShortage.
Do you work for tap? Is your source reliable? Curious to know the real need for pilots.
They suspended hiring in March and new planes continue to arrive.
I believe that the selections will return in late 2019 to start training in 2020.
I heard rumors that some pilots left during ground course.

Mostly a Good source + rumours. They still need but from my point of view it won't be in the next few months, probably late 2019 early 20, it's a very very good company to stay your whole life and do your career plus the country that's a win win.

Any idea of the average time to upgrade to left seat at TAP, especially with all the expansion happening in the next few years?

Not sure but I would bet around 8-10 years, if not even more.

Time for up-grade used to be 8-10 years. There are some rumors that some pilots may be lucky to be up-graded in 5 years due to fleet expansion;

The training is in a chaos situation , that's why they stop hiring. A lot of F/O are waiting for flight training;

Tomorrow 4 new aircraft will arrive. 3 A330-900NEO and 1 A321NEO LR;

New destinations already started , ORD and OPO-EWR(A321NEO LR);

At same time company is divulging financial public Obligations to get 50M€ of financing;

Whatshortage, if some pilots left the company during training we have to understand them. Some of them have expenses, family obligations and can't "scratch the nose" and wait and wait , and live with a miserable salary of 1000€.

In a year of losses, TAP paid 1.17 million euros in premiums to 180 workers.
Premiums that were paid with the salary of May of these collaborators and that oscillate between the 110 thousand and a little more than thousand Euros.
And with this the government accused TAP of "disregarding the duties of institutional collaboration".
The government new about the payment of these premiums through the media, also notes the note of the government, which later remembers that the taxpayers are the largest shareholders of TAP, so the citizens. Means citizens will pay through the taxes all these mistakes.
António Costa, the Portuguese prime-minister, defended that the State considers the model of distribution of prizes decided by the executive committee of TAP "incompatible with the standards of sobriety" that must exist in companies owned by the State.
TAP administrators nominated by Parpública said that the awarding of prizes was "a unilateral decision" and that they were surprised by the media disclosure of payments that go "beyond the fulfillment of contractual responsibilities", because when the topic was discussed, the State administrators were against, but of little value.
At the conclusion of the meeting of the Board of Directors, which is required by the State-appointed directors, after a unilateral decision to award bonuses to a group of workers without due contractual obligation, they do not appear in the procedure adopted," a note of the directors of TAP SGPS appointed by Parpública.

Spanish WAMOS AIR will make some ACMI flights for TAP with their A330, due to some delays with the A330-900NEO.

Sent my CV to Portugalia last week. After years out of Portugal it's time to go back.

Even with the uncertainty, whether the tap will absorb the PGA or not, one thing is certain the demand for flights will continue.

Trancada I assume you are Portuguese . What about TAP hiring in Sep? And SATA? They have had problems with lack of pilots and airplanes.

Abraço

Sata seems to be in financial trouble. Future is uncertain.
Rumours about new openings in September, they don’t know.*
