SAS to hire 200 pilots!

NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation , announced today at 19:00 that SAS is to hire 200 pilots and 500 cabin crew!
SAS had 128 aircraft last time I counted.
Flight crew average age is 55 years.
Retirement age used to be 60.

Mike and Bjørn is in for a ride, me thinks.
What does the other Training Departments plan for?

Yours Optimistically.

Good, but on what terms & conditions ? Guys who entered this last few years had something considerably inferior to "European loco average" and a long wait until this increased by any significant amount. . . . unless they can find /accept (and they didn't before ) a couple of hundred Scandi wannabes happy to work for peanuts, who will go there (could be good news for those already there, as T's & C's will have to be increased significantly if the "200" is anywhere near the truth.)

SAS has always encouraged employment of pilots speaking at least one scandinavian language, excluding Finnish and Icelandic. Also by looking on how many unemployed pilots there are just in Sweden, I have a feeling it will stay that way for a while as well.

Syntax I don't know where you got those figures from, but to me they sound completely made up .
I know enough people with daddies as CPT, having no chance at all, regarding having any advantages in the SAS recruitment.

Thank you Lansen and Syntax for both your answers.

I do not know anybody and my parents are not working for SAS.
I do not speak the good languages and I want a quick command

To be serious, I perfectly understand this kind of protectionism.
Good luck all!

Facts Folks , Please!

Here are some:
You need to speak some Norse, there has been zero pilots hired in SAS without this. This is what we do. ( Find a Blond and start to learn Cederico!)

Syntax: You are so wrong, You insult the best company in Europe and your numbers and math is flawed.
The fleet is new by flag standard, mind you not by loco std, but then easy ryr etc, did not exist when SAS started transpolar routes.....

Cpt Play: You must remember that SAS is an airline for professional pilots , ie
no typerating pay, bond , bs etc. Ad: Per Diem, pension , loss of license etc, and NO tax problems!

Lastly, I know RYR need 500 plus pilots the next 5 months, Norwegian 100 plus.
Anyone from Easy, Transavia, KLM etc,
regards
BSU

I love it that you references are newspapers. Nothing personal, but most of those articles, well there is some truth in them but the rest is pure mumbo jumbo. Todays SAS is in fact looking for a lot of pilots and those new employees, will become command quite fast as well.

Few years ago when I looked into SAS, my reference was their pure incompetence regarding setting one set of standards in their advert, and recruiting people trough personal references to the same positions who did not full-fill their minimums in the advert, while discouraging people with experience on other types to apply.

Also with regards to TC's, there are other companies like EZY offering much better conditions then SAS for Captains, going to SAS is still risky, as we do not know what the future will bring for them. Norwegian is now more than little thorn in their side.

As for passenger quality, there is not much difference between SAS and Norwegian.
The only reason some guys might want to join was if they could be close to home, however many of these guys now already have command, and do not want to return via right seat on a CRJ.

SAS has screwed over a lot guys in the past, who they made redundant, from being one of the world leaders in TC's they have gone towards the lower end now.
The Golden days of SAS are gone, and highly unlikely they will ever return unfortunately.

In 10 years from now 80% of pilots in SAS will have retired - makes a pretty good upgrade prognosis...

Sure you can buy your way to a faster upgrade in the loco world - but you will most likely never use that upgrade in a major(non-loco) airline.

Start pay is an issue that needs to be addressed if they want to attract a wider array of pilots - or even to get enough applicants.

I foresee at great battle in the future attracting the "right stuff" between airlines. Good for us....

Norwegian to hire 750 pilots on B787 within 5 years

Great plans for SAS with 200 new pilots. Good to see that the airline is hiring again.
Norwegian is looking for 750 new B787 pilots coming 5 years to crew the 30 B787 coming. Now is a good time to join for quick command

Another issue, guys waiting over 20 years for their command, yes now there is an older generation on the way out, so SAS have themselves to blame for this.
It's a risky place to join, as who knows what the future has in store for them, their fleet is pretty old.

But again, unless your daddy/mummy works for SAS, you will not have much chance of a job with them in the first round.
Your whole post is so incorrect that it borders on libellous.

I did not know anybody in this company and was amongst the first hired over two years ago. Many more with me.

Amongst the 100+ pilots hired since then i know of only two who has at least one parent flying in SAS, and none in management position.

Consider yourself lucky SAS is not Ryanair cause if it was you would be facing a lawsuit.

Libel..... I actually caught them out on this, and reported them to the Norwegian Pilot Union, was anything done? Think not, the union is also lead by SAS pilots mostly.

Caught them out on what? Having a disorganised and poorly synced recruitment process initially? Finally recruiting people who didnt meet the desired experience requirements because not enough people applied?

None of this constitutes a crime and is entirely up to the company, what would you have the union do? Interfere in who is hired? Then I bet you'd be bitching about "the all too powerful and arrogant unions".

Just go back the posts in the end from 2013

SAS recruitment [Archive] - PPRuNe Forums

They insisted on CRJ rating to apply, so having 1000 hours on Airbus was not good enough, but happy to take 6 guys from a flight school in Roskilde, that belonged to 2 SAS Captains, and 1 or 2 of them was sons of the SAS Captains, while I had emails from recruitment saying anybody applying without having the minimum requirements would be banned from further requirement.

That STINKS big time for me, just because they are from Scandi land, does not make the immune to such!

Craggenmore also makes a valid point, there are loads of guys who was let down badly by SAS in the past, and now they will not even consider going back there, this is not only ME pilots, but also in the EU/UK.

Many guys in the company now are happy if they can get an early retirement deal, few of them got that at the age of 55 a few years ago. The Golden days of SAS are gone, and they can not offer job security.

Recruiting 200 pilots is not a lot if you think about it, there are some companies hiring 200 a pilots a year, with SAS they will have small bursts and that's it.

You might get stuck there for a few decades as an FO, that for me is not good enough.

Already in that thread you were told that your accusations were not true and to drop it, but still somehow can't let go.

Your beef should be with Klaus since he is the one individual who misinformed you. Also he is no longer involved with the recruitment team.

Regarding T&Cs the pay is **** and we work a lot, no argument there.

Few decades as FO? By 2030 only 15% of todays pilot corps in SAS will be less than 65 years of age, and they will be retiring in droves until then. You tell me if your estimation on time to command seems correct?

More numbers, less bitching please!

The winter is for recruitment and sim training, this is standard in all modern airlines.
I had ALL training and recruitment and spare sim for the next rolling year planed in my little "DreamAirliner" . Including my favorite: the annual pool with the cabin crew, all girls and some French to boot.
Again:
We need numbers, not references to old fights on old threads.
There are some of us that are so flaming sick of this industry that we are pulling the plug. We love the blocktime mind u , so we are considering a new year.
Afterall flying is fun, once the AP and FMC fails......?

NOW boys: Numbers please from KLM/AF et al, LH BA eazy wizz jizz jazz wow ali IN short all airlines, small and big. Anyone?

With regards to my statement on SAS as best eu airline , now that was the troll in me (and yes I look like on as well). SAS are nr 5 after .............................................! Lets vote.
And SAS shall prosper for a long time , why?
3 reasons come to mind:
1 Lean and mean compared with earlier performance.
2 Staraliance
3. Wallenberg famely.

Best regards
BSU
