Vicarious liability

There is something called vicarious liability and I'm sure that most employers are insured against it.

I've had another look at the PPU website and noticed this on the blurp about legal cover:-

"...With the PPU policy, notification to insurers does not have to be in writing, in the first instance (unlike other policies)..........."

However on perusing the Legal Cover Policy Wording , I found this:-

1. Notification of Claims
It is a condition precedent to the liability of the Insurer that the Coverholder be notified in writing during the Period of Insurance
immediately the Insured is aware of any cause, event or circumstance which has given or may give rise to a Claim, dispute or legal
proceedings involving the Insured. Where such notification has been given, the Insurer agrees to treat any subsequent Claim in
respect of the cause, event or circumstance notified as though the Claim had been notified during the Period of Insurance.
The Coverholder will forward to the Insured an insurance claim form that must be completed and returned immediately.

@Safety_Concerns

I think that once I eventually gain my ATPL, the last thing that I would ever want to do is become united in solidarity with loony left idiots like you. I thought the sky was free of commies except over China, Cuba and North Korea.

I am indeed a BALPA member (not VAA though) and have been so for over 30 years. I did indeed read the report(s) and I cannot agree with the assertion that the GS called off the strike all by himself.

Good luck to those of you who are about to join a union with no offices, outsourced admin staff and run by anti BALPA pilots.

May I suggest that all VAA pilots leave BALPA immediately, join this new "union" and engage in your first skirmish with your bosses - that should focus pilots' minds on the merits of the PPU.

If you think things are bad in this industry with BALPA, then wait and see what things will be like without them.

They are far from perfect and they get right up my nose at times with that magazine of theirs, chock full of letters from Capt. Bufton Tufton BOAC/BA (ret) ex VC10, 707, Trident and Sopwith Camel as if they have any idea what is going on nowadays.

However, if the workforce gets split the management will descend on us like a ton of bricks. And there will be no effective and united opposition. Pay to fly will spread, FTL will be out the window, Longhaul economy positioning will be the norm and you had better get used to staying in Travelodge or equivalent at the airport on your layover.

If the VAA CC were so bloody useless, why not vote them out and get a new lot in? Same with the national executive. You do have a vote. You could even stand yourself.

Just my two bob worth. Personally I am delighted to be close(ish) to retirement option point 1. If the job gets too horrible for words I shall pull the pin at 57 and do something that doesn't involve a 200 mile commute, staying up all night, Indian bureaucracy/ ATC and food poisoning on a regular basis. The pay to fly kiddies will be welcome to it.

CPL1234, don't be silly. There are no "commies" in BALPA. Once you get your ATPL you will be very glad of the protection of a union, assuming you ever get a job.

Good luck with the exams.

a1anx,

'fraid not, there are plenty of leftist fools in aviation.
Like whom?

That well known leftist MOL? or how about the raving Stalinist Richard Branson? Everyone knows that Sir Michael Bishop was an agent of the KGB and Willie Walsh sells "Socialist Worker" outside Camden tube station every Saturday.

In all my years flying , I have only ever seen a copy of the Grauniad on the flight deck once. And that was one I found on the train. The Telegraph/Times are the normal flight deck fodder along with those lefty rags News of the World and the Sun. Oh yes and Top Gear magazine, read by all sandal wearing greenies and loony feminists.

The only people who try and paint BALPA as being a hotbed of the hard left are either axe grinders or those who don't yet work in the industry.

Personally I would welcome a bit more militancy, just to balance the militancy of the management. And I'm about as conservative as they come.

You didn't expect me to name names did you ?
I don't know who you work for but you obviously haven't been paying attention. As for the Grauniad, Telegraph Daily Mail test my experience was similar to yours. I put it down to the fact that the Guardian is a pretty boring newspaper evidenced by it's steeply declining circulation.
