If it isn't agencies and airlines trying to rip unemployed pilots off now our own union is charging £125 to put you in touch with airlines !!!!
Unbelievable ! When you've just lost your job forking out £125 for something like this stings !!!

There are only paid places left now, so as a BALPA member I can't go unless I pay, or at least that's how it looks to me.
I couldn't have booked earlier because I don't have a roster yet.

Of course that was my first port of call, however there is little information apart from the venue and price... was hoping there would be a profile of airlines attending, type of experienced candidates it was aimed at etc.
Thanks anyway.

Pointless in my opinion. Ok if you want to go and work abroad or live on a ****ty temp contract, or if you're unemployed of course, but for pilots at the bottom looking to move on or up it's a waste of time. Maybe BALPA should focus on trying to end the CTC cartel and think about creating real jobs in this country for our pilots. Maybe then more people might buy a ticket.

There used to be a list on that website of companies attending the open day, I can't find it now but yes it was middle east airlines, Emirates was one, plus lots of contractors. I notice they say "lots of british companies have been invited". Yes they probably have, but are they attending? The distinct lack of information is very amature. Also it says they are holding it in Manchester so that it's central for all the ex bmi chaps, all well and good but what are you going to tell them they don't already know? There's no jobs in the UK because CTC are filing all the seats with aspiring pilots from the UK and every other country in the EU so you'll have to go work 5000 miles from home if you want a job. Well cheers Einstein.

The advert makes me want to heave , it uses ridiculous language , such as the following headline
When you read the list of attendees it's only ONE actual airline - Emirates
Plus the following agencies
Bradair aviation consultancy
Paramount
Cae parc
Direct personnel
Flightcrewresources international
Pilot career news
Save your money and stay at home. What can they possibly tell you that you can't get for free by contacting them directly.
I can't believe BALPA is charging to put you into contact will agencies!
If you want to go to Emirates why would you not just apply directly or see one of their own FREE roadshows ! Then you could save £125 plus petrol and/or accommodation !!!!
The definitive event for direct entry pilot opportunities

Bradair isn't an agency, he's a training provider so will be there with a sales pitch.
The last time I attended a BALPA employment seminar which was about 8 years ago, all the airlines that attended and made presentations told us all about how many pilots they had taken for the coming year, and that recruitment was now closed, but be sure to keep an eye on Flight International for future recruitment. It was a bit of a waste of time.
It may be different nowadays.

It looks on current evidence that only Emirates is there to represent the "Airlines"... Ironic really as they rule their roost with a no-compromising attitude towards any sort of union representation!
Anyway, I digress; with no civilised carriers represented directly, seems a futile exercise.

Flyingcamel... Depends where you are driving from.... I suspect it won't be a problem cost-wise if you are working, but as it is aimed at unemployed pilots, they will have a decision to weigh up the cost against the usefulness.

Cheers for the advice Vasi. Was only really going to go for the talks on becoming an expat etc for info. Can't see that any of the agencies will want Dash drivers. Think I shall surrender my free ticket to (hopefully) someone unemployed and jet rated.
I feel BALPA have been a bit disingenuous about this event by calling it 'Direct Entry Pilot' recruitment day, when it seems it should be called 'Unemployed/redundant, jet rated pilot Agency liaison day'.
Best of luck to all that are going that need the work, I hope you get something approaching what you want/need out of this.
