What's happening with BA recruitment?

I know there has been several threads on this topic but it's all gone very quite on the western front. It feels a bit surreal to be honest, I'm sat here waiting for news of any kind, an update from the powers that be but nothing is ever forthcoming. I have a life to lead but it's getting increasingly frustrating waiting, how hard is it to just tell us once and for all that the chance of employment is officially zero?
I'm getting tired of hearing the same excuse all the time, no one knows what's going on because of the uncertainty with BMI, retirees etc, the dire economy, well fair enough but this is peoples lives you're dealing with here, can the company just show a bit of empathy and tell us one way or the other.
It feels like all the resources have been thrown at the BMI issue and the people who have gone through the hard yards, put the work in and EARNT a place have just been shunned and left to wither on the vine. Probably the best we can expect is an email at the end of the year telling us, sorry but you'll have to reapply.
I understand these are uncertain times but just a snippet of information is better than nothing. Does anyone know what the hell is going on?

My sympathies, especially after all of the hard work.

Assume you will not get in, assume you will be dropped out of the pool and be left with nothing. Move forward with plan b and pursue other opportunities.

The waiting game otherwise will sap your sanity.

I hate to say it, but BA is a commercial company, not a part of an "Employment Rights" process.

If you have decided the chance is "zero", it might make life easier for you.. and you can move on. In practice it probably is not zero

See above, they seem to have been fairly clear throughout about the interview / hold pool process and stuck to their word. It just seems some don't like the truth?

put the work in and EARNT a place in this company have just been shunned and left to wither on the vine.
Nobody, including myself has "earned", or deserved, a place in BA. Either everything lines up, from qualifications to interviews to economy to places available, or it does not. What have you done to "earn" your place, apart from complete an application and attend a day or 2 of interviews / assessments?

There is a lot of work going on now with the bmi integration, and that alone leaves numbers uncertain for some time. The law, practicality and just any sense of "the right thing" would show the bmi pilots need to be absorbed prior DEPs, and I would place the bmibaby pilots next (but whether that holds any likliehood I do not know?)

If X bmi pilots do not get through / choose to discontinue / leave the integration.

If Y bmi pilots do not sign the compromise agreement, and as such are Z% more efficient (Z might be negative ) than on the BA scheduling system...

If A BA pilots take up the "part retirement" option coming up later this year. Or leave, die, go Part Time anyway, or tell a Manager what they think of them and are invited to work elsewhere.

And that's before the economy / Govt regs (APD / LHR) and 380/787 delivery schedules...

Multiply X,Y,Z,A etc. in some format and I doubt it equals 0

Thanks very much Nigel for your informative reply. Sorry, sometimes the frustration of waiting for nigh on 12 months sends one a bit loopy. I hate to have to rock the boat to get a response and I take on board what you said.

I have assumed that the door is now closed and have moved on, but I do sympathise with those for whom the stalled recruitment process has been a huge disappointment, especially if other options are not readily available.

I am not critical of BA for being unsure of how to proceed with those in the system, but the regular communication that was so enlightening in the early days of my application ceased as far back as January. It wouldn't have taken much to send another email saying 'hang in there' or similar in the last few months.

I'm a big boy and I can read between the lines, so it hasn't troubled me much. I was just delighted to have been asked for an interview, surprised to have been asked for a sim, sad that the exciting prospect of joining BA fizzled out without a murmur. Better to have loved and lost, and all that...

Guys, don't force the issue. Everyone concerned knows the frustration. Pilot recruitment at BA wouldnt have put the numbers through if they had known about the massive swerve ball bmi would have caused. I'm also willing to bet BA didn't quite expect the UK economy to still be receding at this stage as well.

Yes it's a complete pisser, but BA owe us nothing. I don't think anyone is 100%?sure of the eventual outcome here however the time for keeping all the eggs in one particular basket has pretty much passed. I'm sure the recruitment team will be along when they know something concrete.

BALPA is trying to persuade BA to offer jobs to threatened baby employees, especially since BA will be restarting recruitment early next year. Jim McAuslan said "its madness to be laying off an experienced set of professional people only to be recruiting new and inexperienced people next year"
BALPA has been unable to trace any separate bmi baby accounts at Companies House which leads us to conclude that bmi baby is actually part of bmi and has no distinct legal status that would allow BA to treat it as a separate and disposable entity.
What is the latest on all this given that baby is history in less than 2 weeks? Sorry for thread drift, but if they are offered jobs, the OP probably has the answer to his question.

Guys and girls in the hold pool, I attended my SEP day last week. As part of the BA pilot SEP day , we have an hour scheduled whereby someone from BA management facilitates a discussion with us . On my day , the manager happened to be the guy who is responsible for Pilot headcount and forecast Pilot training scheduling . The question about current hold poolers was raised. He said that with the bmi headcount and current 96 FPP cadets , half of which have already started their courses , he could not anticipate any DEP offers in 2013 . Someone asked if those in the pool would be put out of their misery and he said that yes all current hold poolers were to be notified , to quote " in due course " . Then he said , of course , as you all know IAG is a very fluid company and the plan could all change next week . So, take from that what you will folks.
I hope this info is useful to you and I feel for you having been a hold pooler myself in the past n. Good luck all.

Might one ask where on that page? And even if so, the applicability to BA?

I have scanned it for "recruit", 4 matches, none of which seem to state how a company must (in UK Employment Law), or even should, treat potential recruits.

Given the post above, what would you suggest BA do? I am unaware of BA acting in any way unethically - more they try to act as ehtically as possible. They are just caught in a highly fluid situation, and can do nothing other than pass that "fluidity" to those who wish to apply for jobs...

BA's past record, in such game-changing events as 9/11, has been "above" those of many employers, even honouring contracts sent out but not signed by the potential employee.

I think I'm missing something. I appreciate they have 96 cadets and all of the bmi pilots but those cadets won't be ready on line for some time and the bmi pilots are still flying bmi aircraft essentially. The net change then is a few cadets, most of whom will not be online for ages. This leads me to hypothesize the following scenario, we will all be told to re-apply then some time during August 2013, it'll be a Tuesday, BA will take delivery of a batch of aircraft, they will suddenly realise that they don't have anywhere near the numbers to crew these machines, there will be a mad dash to get an advert in Flight International and the whole employment machine will kick start into gear again having lost the current crop of potential DEP's.
If nothing else the airline employment cycle is eminently predictable, they over recruit in the good times and under recruit in the bad times, leading to this unstable see-sawing effect and reactionary panic. The above scenario will only play out in the world as it is, I'm not factoring in the possibility of war in Iran and Syria, dollar collapse via hyperinflation, eurozone collapse, martial law, Planet X Niburu showing up (thats a joke) the list goes on.

In, January 1991 BA put a freeze on recruitment.

There was a brief blip of activity in 1994, then the next pilot to be recruited was June 1995.

We have a surplus without growth (again)... I'd be pessimistic.
