Lurkio, I stand by what I said.

I am speaking as an occupant of the left seat; there are too many captains who are happy hanging onto what they can for themselves rather than standing up to their employers and fighting for what is right and fair for their fellow employees.

Without wishing to get off topic Thomsons is a point in case; they bin over 100 capable pilots 2 years ago and then replace them with pay to fly ctc cadets for this summer and are now interviewing in many cases less experienced pilots to replace them on lesser terms whilst the ones who were forced out have no right to return. Apparently the union couldnít do anything about this because at the time the trade-off would have been a change in the captains terms.

Just because you are in the left seat donít think you are safe from these cuts too, but if you wonít stand up for the guys in the right seat donít expect any sympathy or loyalty from them either.

All employees should be treated on equal terms and with respect, it isnít us and them!

Oh I am we'll aware that new pilots won't turn down any offer......I am well aware they will do almost anything to get that first job.

I, like many of my colleagues are well aware of what's going on and that it's already impacting the T&C's of the LHS and will continue to do so.

We very much agree there. What I disagree with is the assertion that its the alright jack attitude of people like myself and solely our fault we are in this situation.

I would strike tomorrow to stop this. I have been very vocal to the union regarding this. Many of my colleagues think the same. Even if I was to have an alright jack attitude I would still strike because I want to protect myself. To be honest I realise that you are all beyond help. I used to pity those just joining....now I think it's your own fault. You knew the score before starting....and if you didn't then more fool you. However I will still strike tomorrow to improve your lot as it protects my lot. Is that alright jack....maybe!!

The reason for my post is that you seem to think everyone is ignorant of what's going on. Far from it. However the huge problem we face is exacerbated by people willing to sell their souls to fly a jet for free for a few years.

I think it's rather naive if you don't realise you are all part of the problem. You can't sit there and blame existing Capt's for a plight you are all contributing to!!! Once again...get a grip.

I am more than aware that your hero Harry potter won't help us (can I suggest that at your age you perhaps move away from young wizards and get another interest ) and that we need a massive concerted effort from the union and pilots. It's will safeguard my lot and hopefully improve the lot for new starters.

I think we agree on most points, I just totally disagree that it's the alright jack attitude of Capt's that has got us here. Good luck getting a job. If we ever fly together don't bore me with silly Harry potter stories or I will not let you touch the controls. If you start trying to cast spells in the flight deck I will offload your ass.

When I said "I'm alright Jack" I was not referring Captains, I was referring to all those that are not on flexi crews

I am blaming all those that think its just life and tough .

Just to clarify, I actually have no interest in Harry Potter.

But as I keep hearing the hopeless cries of "there's nothing we can do", perhaps Harry Potter is your only hope? Because it doesn't sound like anyone else is going to do anything.

I will stop the Harry Potter references as requested....while everyone waits for someone else to come along and save the day, any fictional character would do, spiderman, batman, balpaman...

Why don't you use your brain and give people here a bit more details about what you are looking for, for instance, are you looking for direct entry? Are you looking for cadetship? Are you looking for a temp contract? Are you looking for TRSS?

Artic Monkey,
Seems like the favourite sport in PPrune is to attack everybody's post not fully compatible/compliant with people's meaning.. Don't you?

I heard about recruitment of SF/Os via Parc and CTC these days and I was wondering if anybody could share any update..

CTC RECRUITMENT VIDEO

I think you guys in Easyjet need to put out a video that refutes a few of the wild claims made in this video!

Aaarrrrgggghhhhhh. Money robbing, lying b******s!!! This is the kind of propaganda that's flooding the market with sparkly eyed boys and girls who end up in colossal debt who can't afford to say no to p*** poor T&Cs!!!

It's interesting how jaded the comments on this thread are. When I looked at ab initio training around 9 years ago, the comments posted on PPRuNe were broadly similar then as are expressed now. However, there is no doubt that the world of training has changed massively since 2003-05. I have never paid for a type rating, I took the modular route, but strung it all together and saved a bit of cash. Got a job 3 months after completing the fATPL on a full contract, with proper T&Cs and a mere £35k of debt.

The training and recruitment environment has changed enormously. Only Lyndsey Craig of BA has any credibility on that video. The rest of the claptrap spoken makes me feel both very fortunate for my position and very sorry for all those about to be taken in by the glossy sell put upon them. Even by the likes of Max from Flybe and Martin of Emirates, who have some how managed to do the hard sell for CTC! Not a balanced view by two (independent) aviation professionals.

I hope that aviation in Europe will turn a corner if & when the economy picks up, but until that happens it's a sorry place to be and both Max's & Martin's assertions that now is the time to be in training is misrepresentation at best. It's not a good time for ab initio training, it's a rubbish time. Short of a miracle, in 12-18 months the situation at present will be extant if not worse. I can only hope that those who attended that CTC open day also went to the recent BALPA pilot recruitment fair to see the reality of hiring prospects at the moment.

In other words, what Guy said...

Edited to add a point of interest: my debt was about 110% of my first year's salary. What would be the current ratio for a typical CTC graduate?

OMG, now I see clearly what WWW has been going on about, but what shocks me more than the zombies themselves is the parents that actually take these people's word for it. Go to airports and ask actual pilots in the airlines concerned, most of us would only be too happy to give a real account, not this fairy tale that CTC are peddling!!!

CTC are never going to invite line pilots to provide the truth.

Its a business, first and foremost; they have no interest in these people, other than their money.

Just watched the latest CTC SCAM video. To all you people out there thinking of signing up to this shower, do some proper research. Go to your local airport and talk to actual cadets!! hell just ask them on this forum!!! You and probably your parents are being taken to the cleaners just so you can sit at the front of a shinny jet and get paid/treated like s**t.

Saw the video.

I know one person that was mid 20's who went through CTC as a cadet, joined the orange airline and was laid off after 6 months. He soon went bankrupt for over 100K to wipe his debts. CTC would not help him as they did not want to affect the relationship with the orange airline.

After some guidance from the older generation of pilots, he later found a job and renewed his type rating via another organisation.

The video mentioned the selection being hard, actually some have get through and still fail / drop out. Its not 100%. I had to work for it via the modular route whilst having a full time job and never did any selection for training. I think that is harder and more dedicated if you want it. Especially when doing those ATPL exams distance learning or an IR lesson after a hard days work when you cannot borrow all that cash.

I have a background of I.T and software. I know of software companies that write selection software and charge per test. e.g Compass or similar. Theirs a industry around selection and the cadet is charged for the selection because the school or an airline has often pay the software company per test for each student. The test results get sent to a central server at the software company and the pass mark or bar can be set to the required value. The results sent back to the software company has all statistical data from the various training or airline organisations around the world.

CTC charge the airline a large sum each month for those cadets and the cadet gets a crap monthly salary. They are also blocking those people who are in turboprop jobs with experience being able to move up to the next level or even those on jets changing operators.

The chief pilot in the video mentioned statistics for pilot recruitment in the future. What he failed to really state was the statistics for those required in Europe, constraints of requiring perhaps a specific license such as FAA instead of EASA to apply for a job or anything regarding other requirements such as being a national of a country, speaking a foreign language etc.

Asia / China will need their pilots trained and this will be where CTC will focus their business on. The BA scheme being talked about, in the small print, the debts still in your name I heard ... not sure if that is 100% but something worth checking.

I would have hoped the banks would have closed in on CTC to make it harder for people to get the money. Especially with the ratio of salary you earn against the debt to pay back when you start. Perhaps then it would create a shortage or stop the further borrowing for a type rating if a airline require it. Oh well

You can expect more 6 month appointments followed by the scrap heap in easyJet too. There isn't much expansion next year so not enough space for all these wannabes. I'm surprised nobody has put Trading Standards onto CTC for selling a myth. I wouldn't be surprised if the EJ/CTC relationship becomes tenuous either in the coming months. I hear Balpa have legal plans afoot over flexi-slaves.

It is highly unlikely that an enthusiastic young person, who has dreamed of becoming an airline pilot and who has supportive parents that are wealthy enough to be able to help out financially, is going to be dissuaded by anything that is written on PPRuNe.

However it is clear that all future graduating courses will not only be offered only the eight month training contract (and nothing more) but will be gradually superceded by the MPL cadets from OAT.

Vacancies at easyJet, for the forseeable future, will only arise through attrition. The numbers of new graduates who will reach the dizzy heights of "flexi-crew" will be very few and far between indeed.
