DEC & FO jobs on ATR
I have heard through a friend that Skywest in Austrailia that have ATR 72-500's (600's on order) are looking for pilots who have a full ATPL for full-time employment. Min is 1500 hrs total with 250 ATR for FO and 2500 hrs total with 500 ATR P1 for DEC. Employment visa sponsored by the company. Jobs are for their tie-in with Virgin Australia. Interviews & SIM in Dublin this weekend.

Thanks for the info hardcase, they are advertising heavily through the flight global website also, aswell as with other agencies. Good thing is though its a permanent contract with the Airline. Certainly would give it a go myself if i had the hours, plenty of friends with the hours are going for it.

Another company making money on pilots back.
They also sell TR, line training with a company they have no tie with whatsoever, even command upgrade for 4000hr FO with ATPL willing to fund TR mentioned hereabove.
The whole thing is run by an ex very senior figure at a well known regional aircraft manufacturer.
Looks like he makes more money that way...

What hardcase is talking about is a job offer, with a great salary and benefits, it has nothing to do with line training.

Not sure where 5 rings gets his info from and it could be correct,but.....Skywest seem to be dealing with ETOPS, Sigma, known other TRTO's and directly though Flight Adverts. I was in TLS this week and met two very nice Aussie guys from Skywest doing the interviews and sim assements. I also talked to some other ATR drivers who were there for interview all had used different channels of recruitment. This deal seems very above board.

What I find odd is that experienced ATR drivers who are Aussies and living in OZ haven't been contacted for interviews. They may not be current but surely thats easier than sponsoring expats to work here?
We also have a bucket load of very experienced Dash 8 and Saab 340 crews here who could transition easily. A big Saab 340 operator here in OZ doesn't pay very well and people would jump ship quick smart for a better deal.
I have no problem with foreign crews coming to Oz to fill a skills gap but I can't see why they would be offering permanant contracts. One to two years would be ample time to train locals

I would advise anybody who's thinking of moving to Australia for this contract to do your homework VERY thoroughly.
Australia is by no means the cheap country, it used to be. Property, day to day expenses and especially food are extremely expensive. You will have your hand in your pocket just to walk outside.
Within my group of friends are at least 2 couples that have had enough of feeling like they're being ripped off to live here and they're heading back to the UK.
Also, I'd add that I'm not trying to put anyone off. Personally, I think if we as a nation are dumb enough to elect a government that doesn't protect Australian jobs, we've only got ourselves to blame.

Living and working all over EU for the last 5 yrs or so, and was back in Aus over xmas and New yrs... Can say that Aus is now more exp then EU by all means... The cost of living compares to when i left in 2007 has skyrocketed, and to be honest the cost of most everyday things here in the EU hasnt changed much from what i paid 5 yrs ago when i got here...
105K is good money, but the cost of living in aus is def a consideration you need to take seriously!

Interesting. Given the amount of Aussie's and Kiwi's over here in Europe putting the world to rights about how Qantas, Cathay or Air NZ dicked them over and how they had to relocate to dreary, expensive and clueless Europe, I get a little warm feeling when I see the tide moving in the other direction. I can nominate a few of your nationals who would be willing to return. Infact many of my colleagues would happily nominate them and would probably go as far as sponsoring their ATR ratings. What a pain in the

For those considering coming to Australia, Sydney was just named the 7th most expensive city in world, Melbourne 8th and Brisbane 13th. Close to 30% of your pay will go in tax.
To buy an average house in a good area of Brisbane or Canberra (current bases on offer) will cost $600000+. If you rent a house then it will cost you between $500-700 in the same area. If you go further out from the city and like sitting in traffic for 1-2 hours each way from work then you will pay $400000-$500000 for a house and $450 - 600 to rent.
Public transport is very expensive and to the airports is a very average service (not to bad in Sydney). The AirTran service in Brisbane starts to late and misses the early flights, same in the evening, it stops before the last flights.
Australia s far from the lucky, easy going country it once was. Aussies are taking less holidays and working longer hours to pay the bills.

yeah agreed mate, but lets put that into perspective... the pakage for a turbo prop driver compared with say rex or qlink in todays market is attractive...

keep the insults down. I am a senior long haul Captain who started life in Aus doing my CPL, also plenty of turboprop experience. I go to Australia often and don't worry I am NOT interested in going there to work.
My point is that Australia is a very very expensive place to live now and make sure you spend a lot of time researching exactly what is being offered and where you could afford to live, etc etc.
Try not to get sucked into the "Aus image" and make a reasoned and calm judgement.

p.s. I am British, do not live in the UK and DO have the right to live and work in Aus, so no axe to grind.

Lots of Nay Sayers here! To paraphrase, 3 words! location, location, location! Its a dam nice place, warm and generally friendly. Yes, life is expensive, but its bloody expensive everywhere. As always, do the research. If it looks like what you want, then do it. If not, then don't. Pretty bloody simple really.
