ryanair Trapani base closure

Any truth in the fact that crews based in Trapani have to report in Palermo without any company support in the form of pickup busses/car park permits and so on?
Also wondering what kind of FTL's do they apply since in any normal airline duty would start when reporting at home base and not somewhere 100km away.....

That'll be Ryanair's take on "dual basing".............

Trapani based crews have to report 1.45 before STD to be taken by (luxury) bus to operate from Palermo. To be honest I'm surprised mgmnt aren't just leaving everyone to fend for themselves, as is usually the case!

Normal ops from TPS are scheduled to return after 31st March, not too sure about that myself though.

Best wishes to all the TPS crews in the meantime!

Last thing i heard is that Ryanair moved the crew room to Palermo, making it officially the base, not TPS anymore, so the FTL will start from PMO. The bus is something i expect ENAC has something to do with, or the fact that many would probably call sick if to drive 1.15 hour to PMO everymorning without it counting as FTL.

Latest info anyone? my friends there said the luxury bus was only provided for the first days.

One has heard that the Ryanair Rainbow Bus only lasted for a few days and since then people have been left to fend for themselves. Cabin Crew were apparently (i.e unconfirmed) than anyone calling in sick will be in nella m*rda.

TPS AIRPORT CLOSURE
TPS flights moved to PMO. With effect from first wave Thursday 24th March TPS base will close. All TPS based crews must instead report to the new temporary base in PMO. See roster for detail.

That's what I found on crewdock. "Crews must report to PMO" sounds to me like they have to fend for themselves.

How sad, yet typical that my tongue in cheek humour has in fact become reality! No big surprise for many though.

Rumour has it that O'Leary has been on the phone to Gadaffi demanding compensation for this disruption and the increase in Oil prices! ;0p

I'm secretly hoping more no flyzones will be required for all the unstable countries down there and that Ryanair closes all these sh#tty little bases and we can all go home to our families...hang on is that a flying pig (no it's just DO'B) ;0)

Prehaps the BRK guys are getting the out of base €20 per hour extra? i would be demanding it or going off on leave as they have to give notice of a base change etc in your contract or give you the extra to cover travel etc, and you would not a change of base for that short a period for sure

heres hoping the guys are getting that or are demanding it.

You are all so carried away with busses and other trivia.

The story I heard was that the temporary closure of the Trapani base has just a little to do with a minor skirmish that is taking place in Libya.

However, such a trivial world event would have little effect upon the promising hysterics that frequent pprune.

As a reluctant TPS based FO I can tell you exactly the situation. For the first 3 days of TPS airports closure to civilian traffic Taxi's were rostered and provided from TPS airport. Crews checked in at TPS, printed flight plans etc and then got taxis to PMO which is 1 hours drive, all this was included in duty plan. Some crews had their duties split up (ie 4 sectors changed to 2 sectors) so as to not go out of hours. Out of base crews were flown in from stansted to cover the other shifts.

Then with about a days notice our base was switched to PMO (temporarily apparently). Therefore duty periods are now not a problem for Ryanair. A colleague of mine got up at 3:15AM today for his drive to PMO, got back home at 6PM and will be up at 3:15AM to work tomorrow. It is mayhem as many cabin crew here (and even some pilots) do not have cars and some of the ones that do are refusing to drive. Cabin crew who asked about transport were told by their base supervisor "be there or you are fired." There is no out of base pay and no transport provided. People are driving 200kms every day for duty. I would say only 20% of the crew have a car (previously relied on the bus to TPS) so now everyday my facebook is filled with people posting their roster and desperately trying to arrange lifts. Cabin crew on airport standby are only earning a few quid and it is costing them a fortune to get to the airport. Everyone is exhausted after only 1 day, I need to sleep in the cruise. F**k this company.

theboxer,

Sounds exactly as I would expect.

Lots of good things about Ryanair, looking after people just doesn't usually happen to be one of them , unfortunately.
Alternative viewpoint, think of the character -building/learn to act on your own initiative training you are receiving. . . ABSOLUTELY FREE (well give or take the fortune, for a CC anyhow, now required to be expended on transport arrangements at short notice.)

Man, you have all my understanding, as an ex Ryanair and as an Italian citizen i suggested some of you that i know well to conctact ENAC and let them know in which conditions you go to work every day. If you dont play the "safety" card right now, i dont see when. (Enac number is online, let somebody that speak italian make the call, let them come down and see, or you file a report)

ENAC know all about it, it was them that forced the closure, not the military. To ENAC and Ryanair we are now Palermo based crew and it is our responsibility to be well rested and get ourselves to work, i.e. it is our "choice" to live an hour away at TPS. what bullsh*t. I feel more sorry for the 50 Airgest staff that have just lost their jobs at TPS. Rumour is that the Airport is going to be bankrupt in a few weeks.

No No No

Seriously!!

This is amazing! I think you should all start calling in fatigued. This is a total disgrace! Your base is TPS and that is given to you in the contract and base letter. Unless you have received a NEW letter of appointment in PMO, then you should get either transport to PMO, out of base payment for Brookfield pilots or hotac for Ryanair pilots. If not, I would not bother turning up.

I will copy this thread and forward it to the IAA. Let them have a little look see at what pilots are doing down there in Italy. We will soon see if the company puts a stop to it!

theboxer
Don't forget that you are now breaching contract in living more then 60 mins travel time from the airport!

Double check your new appointment letter to PMO. If you have not got one, I would be on the phone straight away to someone telling them that you will be at TPS waiting for your ground transport, or the letter from BRK saying you have the out of base payment before even going near putting your uniform on again.

FOR GODS SAKE PEOPLE.............GROW SOME TESTICLES AND STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES!!!!

I wrote to Enac, forwarding your first post. Enac knows of the base change due to their decision about TPS long term stop, but they expect Ryanair to comply as any other Italian operator would, about base change (money to relocate, bus transfers for the initial time and hotel accomodations) I think at some stage, sanity will hit them in the face...or not?

Having worked in the past for an Italian company, my opinion of ENAC, in terms of enforcing crew rest legislation etc. . . well, please don't make me laugh.
Ask anyone who worked for an Italian Charter company in the last 20 years, they too will laugh. . . loudly.

If you are part of the local "mafioso" you can, as a company, and probably as an individual too, do what the hell you like in Italy.
Regulation I don't think so.

Of course, as they would still, I am sure, like to screw Ryanair, not of course in any way to give the local operators a helping hand, perhaps complaining to them may indeed bear some fruit. . . but, don't hold your breath.

The IAA ? ? sorry whilst I laugh again. The interest level there may even be less than ENAC.

Sorry to tell you guys, this is yet another example of what you collectively brought upon yourself by looking after No1 , whilst you should have been sticking together and getting some Union Recognition.
How many slaps on the face does it take to waken a dead man.
Too late, much much too late. You have all, individually and collectively, been shat on , so often, & from such a great height , that you don't now even notice the smell.
Sorry to say, but this is just another example.

Captplaystation: I hope you feel better again now you had another chance to gloat at your colleagues misery. Because that's exactly what we are. Colleagues. And while you have a point in stating these conditions are atrocious, your high and mighty all knowing attitude in this perpetual discussion borders on insulting and is tiresome to those at the receiving end.

We are very well aware in what kind of ****ty situation we find ourselves. We also know it is at least partially of our own making and I can guarantee you none of us are in the least bit proud that we fly for this company.

But when will you realize that we are exactly like you? We too have families to feed and parents to care for. You will find that only a handful of pilots are happy at Ryanair. But until we find a way out of this hellhole most of us ended up in as a last ditch resort, we try to fend for ourselves as best as we can. Not because we're too stupid to see what is going on. Not because we're too naive to see what is being done to us. But simply because it's either this or no employment at all.

We should stand together. Agreed. But perhaps other pilots should stop referring to us as the "Ryanair pilots" and realize they are exactly like us only they find themselves in a more favorable situation. So as long as we don't unite across all airlines in Europe, so long as we don't stand together as in common body of colleagues, managements across the world will find a way to drive a wedge between us.

The blaming game is played a lot on this forum. But I feel all of us still fall in the same trap even though we think we don't. As long as we keep blaming each other, management wins.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack for this post. But I suppose that on its' own proves my point perfectly.

This is the future or no future at all guys, i know few of you are sitting confy in your seniority in a nice old style carrier, but you arent the norm,
we high percentage need to unite, and we need YOUR help.
We need cockpit association around europe to help.

Don't expect the IAA to do anything.
I have made two written complaints of dangerous practices... ignored.
Eventually spoke to the gentleman in the IAA who is responsible for overseeing their operation - he was meeting with the chief pilot that afternoon.
After introducing myself (qualifications) he insinuated that I have a grudge against them.
I don't, but when I buy a ticket I do not expect to observe illegal and dangerous practices that put my life at risk........
Whilst there are many current posts about India - England, Ireland and France aren't pure as driven snow either.

Good luck..
