Out of about 1000 pilots I would hazard a guess and say about 200 are ex military which isn’t a lot really.
In terms of lifestyle and security etc... nothing much has changed in the twenty years I have been here. Still 750 hours/good pension/PHI/loss of licence/staff travel although the Airbus has been getting hammered for the past 18 months with 5 three day eastern seaboards the norm. That said the 747 was like that for many years. Everything goes round in circles over time and the arrival of the 350 will change things up. And before you ask, I have no idea how mixed fleet etc.. will work, and not sure management does completely.
As for job security people have been banging on about it for 34 years and we are still here

I reckon Virgin will be fine , I assume it’s within Deltas interest for Virgin to run a loss on the bottom line so that they can offset there colossal profits !
Also I have heard that the Americans like the Virgin brand much more than the icy cold US carriers (BA comes to mind)
hmmm not much to think about really , just waiting for that job alert email ( that’s if I make it through the selection)

I've only done a handful of VA flights but was always surprised by how many American passports and accents I've heard at the gate and on board. Maybe this is down to Delta's influence, code sharing etc, but shows at least they have feed from both sides of the pond. I have always found the on board service preferable to BA.

Hello all! First post on this website, so please be gentle with me I managed to pass the selection and have been offered a place in the holding pool. Start date to be offered in relation to recruitment plans for Summer 2019. Anyone else receive similar news?
And if so, are you able to enlighten me with your thoughts? It took me 6 months from being offered an interview to actually being interviewed, so I won't be holding my breath. More than happy to wait though

I'm in the airbus holding pool but I've heard rumours that they may offer some of us boeing if they really need 78 guys. Hoping for a start date for Jan or Feb. We'll see I guess.

Hello fellow swimmers,
has anybody been plucked out of the holdpool this week? I was hoping to receive news by end of today regarding filling courses in January.
It's looking like it may well be small window with submitting 3 months notice with my current employer if courses are indeed scheduled for January as I am led to believe.

Risky Bis
Year 1 F/O starts on £74000 and rises through 16 increments to £101000
Year 1 Capt starts on £121000 and rises through 14 increments to £163000
Plus extra working/overtime/day off payments etc for those that way inclined
Might be wrong but think current deal runs until Autumn 2019

Me and a mate who interviewed on the same day back in August were told a starting date for Feb. Then they emailed again saying it'll be March with more information to follow. As of yet haven't received an official date or any more news. Anyone else?
