No PFO as of yet, but as I'm recently qualified, low-hours I expect that I and many of my peers are at the bottom of a fairly lengthy list...

Well there is a post in the wannabes forum from a chap saying he has an interview with 270TT but I can safely say that neither I nor any of my friends in a similar position have heard anything.

I think it comes down to perceived 'mouldability'. A young pup fresh from training is more of a blank canvass than a grisly 30 something instructor with a coupla thousand hours in little aeroplanes. The fact the latter has built up a wealth of aviation related skills and experience may be viewed as secondary in a multi crew environment where procedure is paramount?

Is that the procedure where if you the stick shacker activates you pull back on the stick and raise the flaps.....

Ya know something Timzsta - the closest I have come to ending up in a wooden box in 5 years of instructing was flying with a fresh faced 200hr Oxford grad who almost spun us in on a PFL. They obviously thought that pulling back on the stick in a 45deg decending turn against stall buffet 500 feet AGL was a smart move...
Said whizzkid then capped off the flight by landing with feet squarely on the toe brakes. I learnt about instructing that day!
They have been flying the line with a UK airline for some time now and I'm still dodging the bullets on a daily basis.

VFE - I found out through a social networking site recently somebody I did a night qualification for 2 years ago is now an FO at lo co, started there in July having paid for a TR. I have applied numerous times to said operator, not even an interview, even with a written recommend from a Training Captain in the company. What hope?

Sadly guys, much as I hate to say it being a self improver myself, after 24 years of instructing ranging from microlights through SEP to MEP then heavy turbo-prop and light jets I have had no real problems with low houred CPL holders, and I would be surprised if I could tell the difference between a 250 hour CPL holder and a 1000 hour VFR instructor if I flew with them on the day after their final line check in a complex multi-crew operation.
The only candidate I ever actually failed on a multi-crew LST was a 1500 hour instructor who crashed twice on a V1 cut. But after a couple of hours of re-training he passed the second time and eventually became a very competent airline captain...everyone has good and bad days whatever their background and experience.
If I was recruiting I would look for actual IFR experience - single crew air taxi and corporate flying helped me when I became an F/O, I don't really think that 3500 hours of ab-initio instructing helped me at all until I became a line trainer and eventually TRI/TRE.
Back on topic if anyone is still interested, no phone call and no PFO letter (yet) - 14000 hrs tt with light and medium jet and turboprop command time well in excess of their requirements. But no point second guessing what they wanted - anyone they select will do them a good job when they finish type and line training.
Thats life...time to move on.

Absolutely right, life goes on and we must never ever give up!

PFO for me too, bit a long shot as I'm rated on a wide-body and modular.
From what I've read through so far on here, if I lied and put down I was an Oxford grad, female and from an ethnic minority my chances would have improved drastically.
