Any Jet2 pilots:

I am currently flying for flybe and just shy of the 3000hrs TT and about 500hrs command experience.

1) If I were successful at interview etc and joined as an FO, how many hours would I fly in the RHS before being eligible to apply for command selection? I have a mixture of TP and jet time.

2) Do DECs get hired with min experience?

3) On balance would you consider it wiser to stay put until I have the requirements for DEC?

I guess it would depend on where those hours came from. According to the Ops Manual, a DEC needs 3,000 hours total, containing 1,000 command hours on a jet / heavy military turboprop (i.e., not the dash)

If you joined as an FO, upgrade occurs after a minimum of 12 months with the company, a satisfactory training record and 3,000 "factorised" hours. EG, every hour that is flown in house counts as 1.1 hour. External hours on type count as 1 hour, external non type jet 0.9, external turboprop 0.75, bugsmasher 0.4 hours.

Depending on base / fleet you could expect between 400 and 700 hours per year once you've joined. (737 flies more than 757, LBA and MAN fly more than other bases.)

that still leaves a lot of recruitment for the summer season next year so anyone wanting a job should persevere!
How would you suggest to put that into practice?

I am one of those in the "Experienced FOs/Low-ish hrs (<20t)/no-rated" and I would LOVE to have a shot, at least to take my chances with the selection process but I haven't heard a word so far. I understand there are loads of mil/exp folks out there and they will be the ones to be looked at first but pestering HR over the phone might do more harm than good, me thinks...

binsleepn you mentioned some mil guys taken on but they only a small percentage. Do you know what the percentage of Low Hour'd (270 hrs no type) are going to be taken on ?

Guys and girls,

I know it's very frustrating waiting for that email or phone call, I was there last year, but things are moving. The mil guys have had their assessments, but they will be only a small percentage of the total recruits. Telephone interviews are being done with invites to assessment days in Oct.

There are only a couple of guys in HR dealing with thousands of applications and they are working very hard. I would advise giving them a break for a couple of weeks.

Aviator,

I think your post went into a time warp as you asked a question on my post before I submitted it.

To answer your question, I believe it will be similar to last year, which was about 20, almost all on the 737. Not very good odds on the 1000s of low houred applications, but a great job if you are one of the lucky ones.

Jet2 and the BMI's are on my hot list of jobs I would like as a first airline job.

I didn't say there were worse "Northern Based" 757 operators. I said there were worse airlines out there in terms of pay. Coming from a low houred perspective, there aren't any TP outfits out there that would offer anything near what Jet2 will offer the low hour recruits they employ once they are settled on the line and building hours. £42k rising to £45K in 2012 is the figure quoted for an experienced FO, and you don't have to pay for ID, medicals, hotels, etc, a la Ryanair.

Granted it isn't as good as some of the major carriers, especially if you have 1000's of hours under your belt but personally I don't have any desire to go to the South East or the sandpit. Like I said, Jet2 would suit me for many years to come.

Just been to re-register for the 5th time after having my application, lost and deleted or ignored. It is now saying my emails don't match, I tried 2 different emails 3 times each and still nothing.

After all that I will no longer be applying!

The IT is rubbish and it doesn't do the company any favours at all!

Application Problem

I had exactly the same problem It had wiped half of the information from it also. I resent the application but you have to really feel for the HR department. I imagine they have there work cut out at the moment.

Does anyone know if Jet2 have a minimum JOC hours requirement? I heard some airlines like you to have at least 16 hours of JOC training...

You obviously haven't bothered to read much of this thread! See my post 1021 on the LAST PAGE for salery basics. Duty pay and sector pay give anoth 5-7 K for captains depending on base, fleet and workload.

I stand to be corrected but....

There is no CAA/JAR/EASA syllabus or requirement for a JOC. As such there is no CAA exemption letter to speak of. There is for the MCC though.

It is purely an airline requirement. I believe Jet2 do require a minimum of 16 hours JOC sim time. Not great for those who shelled out for a one day course....
