Does every new hire at BA start as a 2 striper regardless?
Have you got any serious oldies still left in right seat, still waiting/ never going to get a left seat?
Are there many FO's who were jet skippers previously outside BA?
Thanks

Bail out,
Don't know for certain but with the 'noises' being made at various levels, it sounds like it will be a 'start at square on', afresh, with applications.

Can you advise what the application form (albeit from the last round or recruitment) says with respect to licence country issue ? I have an Irish-issued JAR ATPL and am on the verge of sending the forms to Gatwick to get it converted (yes, panicking !) - any steer on whether this is required simply to apply would be greatfully received.
Good luck this time around !

Propellerhead,
If you knew how low I was on the seniority list you too couldn't help but smile at the latter part of your remark.
I would also like to point out that I never said DEPers bypassing the initial SH posting was ok with me - thats an assumption on your part, a wrong one I might add.
For clarity though, I am a realist, I play the percentages and don't worry too much about those things I cant change.
Misses callin' me for dinner....

A quick follow up to my earlier post - can anyone advise if previous DEP application forms have outlined whether a non-UK issued JAR ATPL is acceptable at the application stage (with an undertaking to convert to a UK-issued licence if successful) ?

very unlikely im afraid. There are just going to be too many applicants who already have the required licence for BA to risk making you an offer. If you dont have the required paperwork at interview time i hughky doubt you will be offered a position. Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear

TR Candidates only/Hold Pool swimmers getting priority
A Quick Q to those concerned. Where ARE you getting this "reliable" info regarding only 737/A320 drivers being candidates for this round of recruitment? This is irrelevant for BA, as all training is done in-house, with previous airbus guys getting sent to Gatwick on the 73 and visa versa to the bus at LHR.
Also, some are saying that newbees might go onto LH ahead of some of the shorthaul guys, again, where does your specific 320/737 rating come into play here?
I'm sorry to open old wounds but, the hold pool was disolved for a reason (why I don't know). Why would the company decide to give those previous swimmers first call? Some aren't even flying at the minute, and never have since the treading of water began!!!
Way too much speculation here, lets just wait and see what Oct 15th brings. May I wish you all the very best of luck with your applications, IF you meet the criteria.

Why wouldn't BA accept Irish (JAA) licence holders, it is just a quick bit of paper to transfer to UK CAA? If non UK licence holders are not accepted it rules out a lot of guys at Ryanair with 737 experience.

2.5 years ago I was accepted in the hold pool with a Swiss JAA ATPL.
The only requirement was that I had to have my licence changed into a UK one by the time I would join BA. Which of course never happened.

Newbies to LH?
Previous DEP LH requirements were 2000+ hrs total time, 1000+hrs on Multicrew jet >25T or Turboprop >50t and an unfrozen ATPL. Sounds like an insurance requirement to me.

I'm also really curious if anyone knows for sure that they will just require type rated candidates on the bus or the boeing as BA generally don't set type requirements but hour requirements for DEP's.
Considering that I have about 1500TT of which 1300 or so are on the Q400, it would not be a positive thing around these parts if I can't even do assessment whereas normally I would be able to.
Can anybody confirm on good authority that they will require 320/737 ratings?
And on another note, does anybody know if you can specify any preference for airplane and base in the case one is lucky enough to get through all the rounds of assessment? I understand that if they need you at LGW on the 737 and there is no requirement for the 320 or vice verca, then you just do what you get dealt.
Thanks

All new entrants start as 2 stripers, regardless of what you've flown before. How the cabin crew treat you is entirely up to you. Unlike many other airlines, there is no pay-rise associated with 3 stripes. You get your third stripe when you've completed your 4th year. It's a non-event.
In the previous round of recruitment some type-rated DEPs (to 320, 737 and 7576) were given 'short courses'. I don't believe this is something BA had done before. Perhaps this time they're looking at only recruiting rated guys to save costs. This is a shame and it must suck for anyone who doesn't meet the requirements but unfortunately it makes financial sense. I can't see the restriction lasting forever.
You won't get any rock solid details of entry requirements until the day BA publish them on their website. In the meantime, the info regarding type-rating requirements and numbers to be recruited is coming from pilot recruiters. These are line pilots who conduct interviews during periods of recruitment. Some of them have had week long blocks of their rosters cleared for interviewing and have been briefed on some of the details. As I say, that's as reliable as it gets until the day online applications open.
Regarding base choice, I'd imagine that as long as the type-rated requirement stands then your base choice has been made for you.

I was told the cabin crew can treat you like you are a cadet, irrespective of your background (as can a couple of the trainers)
drfaust, the info about type rated requirements is coming from flight ops management in BA on our company forum. It is a good source. Sorry that may exclude you this time around

If the 737/320 experience requirement is correct, why do you think it won't last forever? I think it would be unusual to bring in the requirement and then reverse it at a later date? You're right, it does suck. I am a captain on a different type than above and passed the selection last time around. Will be disappointing if I'm excluded this time.

Ringi, it will depend on how desperate BA get. If they can get sufficient TR people thats what they will go for. If this pool of TR people dries up they will be forced to reduce the entry requirements.
During the last recruitment drive the mins got down to 100 sectors or 500 hrs on a perf A airtcraft!!(equivalent to the mins for ZFT conversion)
