what about the pool

What about people who have been waiting in the holding pool? Are any mainline or Baby pilots taking precedence over these?

Due to the redundancies in the group, the positions are being offered within the group first. In the first instance as crew you are employed as a "pilot" whether that be skipper or paper biatch. When there are redundancies any newly created positions have to be offered to those that have lost theirs within the group hence the trawl for crew from mainline and baby. Some might be interested because taking a bus job in the east doesn't suit their family committments - plus it keeps them in the "group" !!! Sounds pretty reasonable. sorry if you've been swimming a while.

Has this offer also been presented to Baby crews as well. I thought the crewing situation there had been sorted last year and any guys made redundant have been out of the group for a while now. How much interest has been shown for the posts and is it just for 4 positions to replace 8-10 leavers?

Has there been any further talk about recruitment and courses at regional. When do the leavers take flight for Doha and need their replacements ready for the line? Any more news about the rumoured new acft. The summer approaches.....

woofly - asking the same thing on a near daily basis isn't going to get you a job any faster - just chill out and watch the world go by. When the time is ripe you'll get a call (or not).

Don’t get me wrong mate, I really hope you do get the job. You are obviously very keen and eager.

BTW, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Just because you are in a hold pool does not mean you are defiantly going to get the job. Aviation can be very unpredictable.

I got a phone call last week asking if I would be available for a course that might start on 26th April. I had been in the holding pool since Feb 2007. During that time I had managed to meet a lovely lady, have one daughter, and have another on the way. Needless to say my priorities have changed and I couldn't believe that I found myself turning down a job that I had dreamt of for years. I'll stay in my secure, well paid, mon-fri, relatively dull job but will make up for this with having a stable roster and seeing my kids grow up.
Good luck to bmir, they certainly came across very well whenever I dealt with them. Good luck to all those lucky souls that find them on a course soon. There is hope out there and patience will pay off if you're in the pool.

You don't know what a stable roster is (and before you ask, I managed four children and was always grateful that I could b*gger off to work and get away from it for a day or two)!

Believe it or not chaps I'm not in the airline industry at all. My screen name will give you a clue. I get my duties published a year in advance and I am well recompensed if they change things at short notice. I'm earning more than some mainline FO's and only work mon-fri 0800-1600.
I had the dream since I first got the chance to fly a C172 at the age of 12. I've got the debt and failed marriage to prove I've done my time trying to chase a job in the industry, I started my theoretical study in 2000.
I would have jumped at the chance of flying the embraer if it had been offered in 2007 but a lot can happen in 3 years and my priorities have changed.
My two closet friends in the business have both been made redundant in the last 12 months and don't intend going back into the industry. I had a boyhood dream but have made an adult decision on what is more important to me. It hurt like hell and I will always wonder what it would have been like to fly jets.

Can you not take a sabbatical from the rozzers for a year or two and dip your toe in to see what you think?
If its not for you then go back to your day job in the knowledge that you took charge of your own destiny
Some pro pilots are trying this (sabbatical) but going the other way to you.

Plod,

It might not be a relevant question as your application obviously dates back to 2007 but I was wondering how much experience you had when you applied? (I know the current application for says preference will be given to those with at least 500hrs) in my current position given the chance I would have bitten their hand off right up to the ankle! but each to their own.

I took a sabbatical back in 2005 to spend some time instructing and building up my hours. Unfortunately this only increased my level of debt. I also tendered my resignation in May 2008 bacuase bmir said they would be starting a course that June. I had to go back to the force and ask for my job back when the course was cancelled due to rising oil prices. I would still have jumped in feet first if I my circumstances were the same as they were in 2007.
In the time that I have been paddling in the holding pool I have met a wonderful lady(who said she wouldn't ever try to stop me following my dream, even last week) I've started a family, and I've witnessed the fragile nature of pilot employment for the second time in a decade.
I didn't look elsewhere once I'd passed bmir's sim assessment because I thought there aren't many airlines that offer relatively inexperienced pilots such a good package.
It was very hard to step off the treadmill of trying to get an airline job and view life as a whole. When I did this I realised that I was safer and more secure in my current role, as the sole bread winner I couldn't afford the risk of losing my job.
I've still got instructing to keep me flying and I truly believe it's the best sort of flying you can do.
