Does anyone know if they will be recruiting directly onto the A330 (LHS) or is all recruitment via the A320?

Stop the insanity !!! STOP being whores!!!! and STOP paying for your profession!!!! The guys that do this make me sick....and should be ashamed....maybe if no one took these jobs the PAY/CONDITIONS WOULD BE BETTER.....STOP STOP STOP!!!!!

Quick story about AA - an Aussie mate of mine was promised a job there, he went over and flew on & off for the best part of 18 months and they never paid him a cent. The whole thing was out of his pocket! He got a little 737 time but eventually after they screwed him around too much he just left.

Avoid like the plague.

Guys,

I heard that out of the 5 guys who payed for the rating and passed the base check only 2 were offered the line training/hours.

3 others were thrown out now with a useless TR.......

The thing is that companies like the locos metioned here ruin the industry as do the people that are willing to accept substandard compensation for the job. It is funny how this seems to be a pilot only problem. Mechanics (Engineers) have their act together and today they get paid better than a 747 Captain, me that is.

Personally I could not give a rats hind part what I fly. I am interested in good T&C and time off that go's with it. I don't mind helping company out and going the extra mile, but I want to get something back for it.

I live in the hope that this economic crisis will clear the air and put the worst companies out of their misery and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am afraid that I am being naive and unrealistic. My feeling is that we will get screwed worse and it is our own "Shiny Jet Syndrome" that causes it. Us pilots are to blame in most part and thus we deserve the cr.ap that is dished out by companies using our own stupidity to their advantage.

As a 24 Year old white female when I went to work for Air Asia on the whole I was accepted. Yes there were some issues with some captains, but similar problems have been encountered over in the UK.

I m not going to get into to the whole should you pay the money to do a type rating as its an arguement we ve been through a million times. But I will say OUCH!! Thats alot of money to bein debt with no guaranteed job at the end. After all I was made redundant in September with 1700+ on type and still can t find a job.

Living in Malaysia is lovely, it is multi cultural and cheaper than the UK. There is good night life, and for that plucky 20 year old rich kid then they will love it as Pilot is still God over there, we got into the best night clubs and VIP.
You can get some really amazing accomodation out there, I had a 3 bed 17th floor apartment for 2800RM a month in KL. But as these guys aren t getting paid much then I guess they can find much cheaper or bunk in together

As for Air Asia, Tony is a friendly guy and you will be treated like family. Some issues with some captains and some CRM issues, but if you ve done your training and know how to sweet talk the you will be fine.
As for being the woman, most female pilots I ve met don t stand for sexism and are fully aware on how to win a difficult sexist Captain round.

Amusing as this undoubtedly is, does anyone know whether or not Air Asia X recruit directly onto the A330 for rated guys and if so are they likely to do so soon (as they have so many airframes on order)?

praful84 - The Air Asia jobs page states that you require ICAO Level 4 English as a minimum requirement.

This has got to stop and it will. I have over 14000 hrs on Boeings and busses . I have never paid for a single flying hour after my commercial. I started out flying props , floats , twin otters etc... 10 years ago this kind of whoring didn't exist. Do you really think that 1000hrs on a bus makes you a pilot. You all seem to think that a 320 flies itself . NOTHING could be further from the truth . You will not have to worry about saying "What's it doing now." because you will be in the rear lav. But not to worry, I am sure Air Asia attracts the most experienced Captains to keep you out of trouble . OH yeah. The MCL program is a joke and their is a reason they put two seats up front . The crash in Amsterdam will hopefully start to stop the insanity . I would rather have an F/O who is a pilot first. Go fly a BN 2a, piper , have a blast and learn to fly first. you will not regret it and you will not miss out when the jobs come around.

well said picture!!! fly the real A/C's first n learn the proper way....trust me it'll grow some hair on your chest...hehehe ooppss I guess that wasn't politically correct..we have some ladies around too...but u get the idea..just dont be a whore...u probably get paid less flying the props..but u wont be in debts...u'll have better experience n u'll enjoy it more...

Agreed, I learned a lot from instructing/Air taxi. I managed to survive many scrapes built a foundation of knowledge and airmanship. You just don't see this today when I fly with many cadets straight out of flying school, they are mostly automatons. Some are good though.

This Air Asia deal is probably the second worst I have seen , the Indian one was essentially slavery.

Nearly fell off my chair when I saw this on flight international:

The team at Malaysian budget-carrier AirAsia have come up with a pretty good, and sometimes funny, video (see below) about their online competition to select a pilot.

They have also spelt out the criteria for potential applicants in a post on their corporate blog. It appears as though only Malaysian citizens will be able to apply. Nonetheless, this is still a unique method for attracting pilots to the airline, and there appears to be a bit of leeway in the way they will assess the applicants.

"There is a bit of leniency here where those with close to our requirements will also be seriously considered if they can prove that they want the job badly enough instead of getting cut from the get go. We're open to more cases and they get a shot at their dream which is unique where airline companies typically raise their judgements purely based on academic cut offs due to the immense response from their intakes," says Derek Tan, the airline's corporate blogger.

"We're trying to open doors to the hopefuls and get people excited that their dreams not done yet. That is the key message that everyone can fly. What we are looking for is definitely creatively in expressing how much you want to be a pilot as per our demo video, which we have uploaded. Through this, we're trying to get that message out that AirAsia's fun and friendly credo is extended also to pilots and we know why we want to be one."

PETALING JAYA - BLOG and stand a chance to become a pilot in AirAsia's 'So You Wanna Be A Pilot?' blogging competition from April 1 to May 15.
The low-cost carrier will pick 10 winners for the first round of its pilot intake in August.

'The winners will then be tested in their language skills, psychomatic and psycho-motor skills to see if they are eligible to continue on the course,' said the airline's corporate blogger Derek Tan yesterday.

He said candidates would have to write why they wish to become pilots and should include videos, photos, essays or a combination.

The winners will be selected based on their entries to AirAsia's blog. -- THE STAR/ANN

When i visited the AirAsia site today, i noticed that for a captain, the requirement says "Without Command Experience".. Ar they recruiting senior FO's and upgrading them onto the left hand seat?? A bit confused?

I just received a funny email from those you mention .Only this one was for Lion Air...what a load of crap...I see who is makin the money now ..and you have to pay 325 euro for the interview..plus VAT 21%. Then pay for the type rating !!!
When is the CAA, EASA , regulators ever going to wake up and change this ? You people who are involved in this kind of Pilot training and hiring process should be ashamed and I put you in the same books as Madoff!!!
