Cars removed from STN staff car park

The BAA have been enforcing their rule which states no parking for longer than 36 hours in the staff car park. Offending vehicles have been removed. It costs £135 plus £12/day to get your car back. These cars are now being removed whilst crews are away on night stopping tours. For reasons of privacy and data protection the BAA are not entitled to ask what your personal movements are. It seems officious and petty in the exteme to do this whilst going about your normal business. Anyone got any bright ideas to throw at the BAA to stop them from doing this.

I fly long haul routes. Does this mean I would have my car towed while I'm working??? Surely they can't do that? What are the companies paying for? I'm not STN based and have never heard of this rule. Does it apply at every BAA airport?

I would think clarification is required from the BAA... espcially for those who fly long haul or multiple day trips lasting greater than 36 hours. After all... what is the purpose of the monthly parking fee levied by the BAA?

This is one of those ridiculous rules to try and stop people using their passes for 'holiday parking'.

Airports charge a fortune for these passes, if they are annual then you are entitled to park your car there for 365 days of the year!! If not, then stop charging.......

odd

Seems there is hunting season, too many beancounters chasing people at work to justify their existance on the payroll.

I really feel sick

To the same place that most of the SLF perks have gone to

If you haven't signed anything, then if you find your car missing go down to the cop shop and report your car stolen, because that is what they are doing, taking you car without permission. Get someone responceble thrown in the clink and see what happens. I mean if you've paid for 365 days you've paid for 365 days.

Interesting antman, a mate had his TT stolen from outside his house 3 months ago. In that time the police were searching for it. The insurance company thinking it had vanished paid out. Then council calls the police 3 months later!!! It was dumped a couple of miles down the road and they picked it up pretty much straight away.

Of course the motive was money. They took the car, expecting a wealthy Audi TT driver to show up with a couple of hundred pounds and failed to even consider if the car was stolen/recovered. He has sought advice, and it seems he has a valid case against the council who effectively stole his car. What this has to do with the above, I don't know but it's a nice story hey?

Car parking has become a monster milch cow. Hospitals are coining it from their poor soddin' patients, so why shouldn't the BAA rip off it's captive audience too? Just wait until the Greens get their act together. You'll have to cycle to work, longhaulers with their Samsonites strapped on their backs!
I'm glad I retired while the job was still fun.

If they are towing cars, they need shooting

Being rational for a moment, get on to your station managers, ask the question..and find out for sure

111boy you were fortunate, there's a temporary amnesty while the BAA try and work out a way of connecting vehicles with staff rosters, unlikely we hope. However, if they do find a legal way of doing this, I suggest you buy a cheap motor from eBay that you can afford to lose, and use it for commuting only .

I suggest the BAA organise a taxi service to and from the homes of aircrew. That would stop the blighters clogging up the carparks and enable a few more shop assistants and BAA staff to be employed.

6 Days

The Heathrow rule, also a BAA airport of course, is 6 days maximum stay for staff on duty only. They also have a seperate car park for crew, not sure if the same 6 day rule applies.

This is a rumours network ... so does anyone definitely and positively know of any cars being towed away. And if so after what period of time. I think the big yellow sign says 36 hours (just shows how much attention I pay to big yellow signs). I used to rgularly go away for a 5 or 6 day stint. Even once dashed to get the bus and forgot to put pass in car window. Car still there on return!

Unhappy

Yes, at least one car at STN forcibly broken into (on BAA instructions) by the clamping/towing company causing £1400+ of damage (vehicle too heavy to be "lifted"). The car was then taken to a scrapyard in Clacton but was immobilised due to flat battery (alarm had been sounding for hours following break-in) and engine management system ****** .

Apparently the vehicle concerned was an expensive 4wd and the owner was seen disgorging family and suitcases for a week's holiday so I would guess that he got reported.

I've not heard of any similar incidents at STN unless someone knows different.

I remember a memo coming from our Flight Ops department in about 1999 stating that any cars parked in the car park (next to Enterprise House) whilst not on offical work duty would be towed away. (We were regularly operating up to week tours away from STN) Never knew if it happened, but I guess the threat has been around for years.

Unloading your family, baggage el at in the middle of the staff car park.....really? What ever happened to chivalry - drive the lazy a$$es and their mountains of bags to the drop off point. That way you don't get spotted by the jobsworths on candid camera.

Meteor are responsible for policing the staff car park at STN but I don't think I've ever seen anyone going around checking cars. I've only seen two cars clamped in the car park in the last couple of years but there was one clamped out the front of Enterprise House, in the 30mins max parking, a month ago.
The 36 hour rule is pretty un-enforceable due to the varied types of hours/duties of staff. The only way to catch someone "holiday parking" is for them to be reported or be caught with the holiday luggage. There is an obvious way around it though.
I fly longhaul so my car has been there in excess of 7 days on occasions and I know I and my boss would be p1ssed if our cars were clamped.
I did have a Ryanair Captain tailgate me through the barrier without swiping and when I asked to see his ID, he didn't have a STN car park pass, so he wasn't allowed in there anyway!

Which STN based airlines don't pay for staff parking? I think GO used to make crews pay for it themselves. Anybody?
