More info's on Math test

Hi all,
for those of you who still remember the day one, anymore info's regarding the math test please?
From the thread I understood there are 25 questions in 12 minutes but if you are able to share one or two examples (except the only one already mentioned a few months ago here) it would be a great help.

Yep the bmi possible take over is definitely a worry for us hold-poolers and hopefuls as anything could happen. Unfortunately there is no precedent set... When BA took over BCal I believe they took the crews and integrated the seniority list, but when Dan-Air was bought out (bar the 737 guys) everyone was made redundant.

This is only my opinion and I could be very wrong but I would have thought any buyer of bmi would prefer to asset strip and take the slots, this has already begun as BA last month bought 6 slots from bmi. It was out today that Lufty is 27% down on 3rd quarter earnings due mainly to bmi's €154 loss. Also BA must consider that it will really upset the troops if the 2 seniority lists are combined as that will push many further down the list and be very messy. BA were prepared to strike over Openskies a few years ago, surely BALPA would get deeply involved in this!

However on the other side of the coin I would hate to see everyone at bmi loose there jobs as this is always awful for everyone involved including the families! I guess we'll just have to see what happens....

Guys, BA are NOT trying to buy BMI !!, IAG the parent company are. So even if BMI are integrated into the IAG group there is nothing to say that the BMI crew will automatically become BA crew. Remember IAG are starting a new low cost airline in Spain, where crew are needed. Sure the slots and aircraft in LHR would be good for BA expansion with pilots just recruited on lower pay points and no pension deficit, and mixed fleet cabin crew both of which would be a lower cost to IAG than current BMI crew.

Not a pleasant thought for anyone in BMI, but then I dont think any of us can look at the past to view our futures !!!

After the takeover of Cityflyer quite a few years ago the pilots were intergrated into BA (bottom of list, grandfather rights to command etc). However some pilots were found not to be to BA standards and it was decided that in future ALL pilots would go through selection before joining mainline.

I very much doubt if the BMI pilots would be integrated into mainline due to 1. cost savings, 2. unlikely that competition commisions would allow a takover, 3. pilots would be required to go through selection (see above).

Hi! I was wondering if there are any plans or rumours about the DEP selection starting over again in the near future.

They now also have the BA FPP candidates in their final assessment stage in addition to DEP, which may slow the process somewhat?

I've been reading this thread for the past few months but have rarely come across accounts of Day 2 - the sim assessment. Could someone kindly point me towards relevant thread pages or would it be sensible to start a 'BA Sim Assessment' thread?

MH152,

This thread should cover you for that.

By the time you hit Day 2 there is usually enough "knowledge" floating about that a thread is not really required (chatting to people in your own airline and your mates in BA who are current with the process will suffice).

Quite alot of Day 2 attendees have been through the mill before so your best bet is to try and find out who you are in with.

Hope that helps.

Von Smallhausen on page 2 of the thread has written an excellent summary of the sim ride from 2004, eight years on it hasn't changed, other than you now get to play with a 747, rather than a BAC 1-11. I would recommend taking on board on Von's pointers. Basically, it is a CRM/capacity/decision making exercise. Minimal use of automatics in a very basic mode allowed above transition level but otherwise all manual, all raw data. Rad Nav page of FMC is displayed, no other FMC functions are available. Expect to fly airways, and at least one hold and one NDB/VOR procedural approach over the two sectors. Time is short and your workload is high - work together effectively and make safe sensible decisions to get back on the ground and you are onto a winner.

My top tip - BA use TDODAR as the decision making tool in any non-normal/emergency situation. Make good use of it. Oh, and try and get to crane bank well ahead of the start time and spend an hour or so with your sim-buddy swapping notes and working out any differences in SOP between your respective airlines - makes life easier when the hits the fan in the sim. And it will! All the best.

Does anyone want to get together for a little revision session late on the 6th? As there's room at Gatwick.

Thanks Bugspeed.

I'll surf the thread yet again. In the meantime, if any charitable person fancies pm'ing me regarding Day 2 I would be much obliged.
