Things should start to move shortly for the hold poolers. More instructors being trained and internal movements mean that as and when the courses come up, hold poolers are not necessarily the most 'efficient' use of the course....

@skyways. Mention of possible a cadet programme, if required, was released in BA's new 5 year business plan. It is by no means a certainty, I certaintly would not hold out for it. BA were close to doing this in 2008 but cancelled plans for obvious reasons. Integrated schools may be full of students, but may not be full of the type the students BA are looking for. By removing the initial financial constraints BA would be hoping to attract even more high quality applicants.
In other news, BA forecasts a need for c.200 new pilots next year ready for 2013 when the A380 and 787s arrive.
Edit: I am sure there are plenty of high quality guys and gals in these schools, but many many good applicants are put off by being unable to secure finance. In recent years getting a place at one these schools has been more about ability to pay than ability to fly, one could argue.

..... ouch!!
Many of those going through training recently have degrees and a high level of education. If the people weren't making the grade I'm sure BA wouldn't be employing them.

Desk pilot, keep watching rumour is that the next wave of applications will open end of autumn/start winter for all ( non type rated). Of course BA hav been taking rated pilots to reduce the time in Cranebank ( BA training ctr) for all but a type rating does not give a ticket to BA. so hang in there and your time should come.

Non type rated
Just had a look at the BA recruitment web site and they are now accepting non type rated applications for long and short haul, Closes on the 12th of August? It says for 2012 hold pool positions.... Interesting, I see this as good news for us guys and girls already swimming! Things may be moving...?

The Direct Entry Pilot Scheme is for experienced high calibre pilots who want to develop their careers with one of the most progressive international airlines in the business.
You will need:
For shorthaul vacancies you will have a current type rating, and a minimum of 100 sectors or 500 hrs experience, on a multi pilot aircraft with MTOW more than 10 tonnes or more than 19 approved passengers. You will also hold a UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(A) (Full or 'Frozen').
For longhaul vacancies you will have a minimum total of 2000 hrs flying experience, and will hold a full UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(A). Your total hours will include a minimum of 1000 hrs on jet transport category aircraft with a MTOW of greater than 25 tonnes, or multi-crew turboprop transport aircraft - or military equivalent - with a MTOW of greater than 50 tonnes.
In all cases your relevant experience will be current, or recent enough, so that you can conduct a Zero Flight Time (ZFT) conversion course at British Airways (for this requirement you will need to have operated the qualifying type within the 12 months preceding the start date of your ZFT course with us).
Please be advised that you need to have these sectors or hours at the point of making your application.
The Individual
You will need a first class flying record and a good level of physical fitness
You will demonstrate evidence of leadership, intellect, resilience, reliability, adaptability, high personal standards, motivation and flexibility, together with well developed customer service skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
You will be physically fit and in possession of a JAA/UK CAA Medical Licence (Class 1) and able to satisfy British Airways medical requirements. Please note that British Airways’ medical criteria for employment is of a higher standard than the CAA requirement
Height between 1.57m (5'2") and 1.91m (6'3") with weight in proportion to height (height is accurately determined during the assessment process). Qualified pilots who are taller than 1.91m may submit an application but will be required to undergo a functionality check to confirm their ability to meet the requirements of the seating positions in the British Airways fleet of aircraft
You will have fluency in spoken and written English, and will hold ICAO Level 6 Language Proficiency in English.

One of the questions asked in the questionaire before you get to the actual application (yes, I know, these things seem to get longer and longer, I´m sure it´s to put people off filling them in) asks if you would be able to convert the license to a UK issued one if you don´t have one, so I think as long as you have a JAA license, you´d be fine.

just started the application process and I am pretty sure they ask you to confirm that:
1. you have a UK JAA licence
2. or that you are able to convert to a UK JAA licence.

One question for you guys - do you need to complete the online application in one go, or is it like the others out there where you can logout and back in again over a few days, then submit it once it's all done?

I guess if you really want it then it won't matter to you. But you will have to go through all the effort just to be able to say that your still standing in a que waiting to be selected!
