You are joining a company not a fleet so just take whatever you are offered, get in the front door and you can move around later till your heart is content - the date you joined the company means everything - not the date you join a particular fleet.
Not only is this good advice for your benefit / career, but also in "definition" terms under BA's agreements. In your first 5 years, BA can shift your fleet/base at their whim. So sign a 744 (LH) contract, and on day 1 they'll show you an Airbus (SH) CBT and say, "arrr, yes, things have changed" [and it has happened in recent times]

I have been in the pool a for a similar amount of time to Jordiejet and would appreciate any information on when we are likely to see Airbus courses scheduled again (I am Airbus rated, haven't got the hours for the 747).

Attended selection recently, they advised if succesful expect sim in August/September and start date early next year (Feb/March). That's for Airbus courses. So I would imagine if you've been holding 3 months, take 3 months off those times, start date at end of Summer I would have thought. Hope that helps.

Like many things the crewing needs and requirements change in a heartbeat, but word on the street today is that they are now looking for more 73 pilots than first thought! This as I say is something I heard today and could well change tomorrow. Maybe a sign of the start of more internal movement. Good luck to all still waiting to join.

Salary scale

Hiya,

Is anybody could provide us the LH salary scale for F/O and Cpt's? May you confirm aswell that the salary taxes in UK is around 40%?

Does anyone have the download link from cockpit web, they have sent me a new registration number but stated I should use the link from the original e-mail. I received that in 2007 so no longer have it. I have e-mailed them informing them, but no response yet. My code expires tomorrow.

So, just like JordieJet, is there any news out there for people in the hold pool???

I know people who did there sim after me by a good couple of weeks and have ben given places on the 747 in October (they were previously 757/67 rated though).

I'm currently on the Airbus and just wondered if anyone had any inside info on the current Airbus courses? I know that things can change at the drop of a hat, just like it can in any major airline.

Feel free to reply on here or PM me... would be nice to have a little reassurance that us hold poolers are still needed!

I know someone who today got offered an A320 course starting in October ...so it would seem things are moving again.

That sounds encouraging 73 addict.

Without wishing to get shot down instantly by anyone with jet time, do you think, given that the recruitment has been widened in the last couple of months to ex-mil guys, that there will be any cadet recruitment through SSP soon? I spoke to the BA recruitment team last year and they said they were keen to take a broad range of recruits but as yet there is still no sign of them approaching flight schools.

I am led to believe that the cadet scheme and its details are being pushed through for financing approval as we speak.

The exact details I cannot divulge but I do think that they will be released toward the end of the summer. As usual on a rumour website please take that with a big pinch of salt!

As with anything involving BA things are very fluid. There are alot of rumours swilling around the company at the moment some including expansion others including additions to the IAG group.

It is well rumoured that the NEW cadet scheme will be in the form of a mentored cadetship with some form of financial assistance and/or loan guarantuee. The SSP scheme will be abolished.

Airline pilot training programme CTC has revealed that British Airways’ Manager of Pilot Recruitment, Lindsay Craig, will be the guest speaker at their next open day on 9th July 2011.

CTC, which boasts a 100% placement record for their graduate pilots, holds regular open days for potential students to find out what is involved in becoming an airline pilot.

The next Open Day will take place at CTC’s Boeing and Airbus simulator centre near Southampton, where visitors will be able to test their skills on the simulators and hear an update on the employment opportunities within the industry from BA's Lindsay Craig and CTC's Director of Business Development, Lee Woodward.

““We work hard to provide a ‘one stop facility’ to help both potential pilots and their parents understand all aspects of the application, funding and training process and provide a clear picture of the current employment prospects,” says CTC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Karen Bath. “Our guest speakers are always of a very high calibre and having Lindsay there to talk from a British Airways perspective will no doubt be a great attraction.”

Apart from the obvious attractions of the key speakers and simulators, visitors will also be able to:

•Discuss funding options with representatives from the BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A) and CTC’s own finance team
•Learn more about what airlines and training providers are looking for at selection
•Talk to CTC’s instructor team about the different stages of training with “CTC Wings” and “CTC Takeoff”– the ATPL theory, basic flying, MCC, type rating and line training
•Chat to CTC trainees and graduates about their personal experiences of training with CTC in the UK and NZ and what it’s like to be flying with their partner airline
•Meet representatives from the Air League and other aviation societies to learn how they can support you in your future career
•Browse the AFE Pilot Shop
•Tour CTC’s airline training facilities – Boeing and Airbus full flight simulators, Boeing fixed based training devices, Airbus virtual flight decks and multi-type DigiTrainers
The Open Day runs from 10:00 until 16:30 with two speaker sessions – one in the morning and another in the afternoon. I've been in the pool for 7 weeks, I'm 320 with 3000hrs and my ATPL. I would be happy with any fleet and I'm sure I'll be offered 320 when a course comes available for me, but out of interest will BA only consider boeing pilots for long haul or will they consider anyone with 2000hrs and an ATPL?

I believe that the long haul requirement is 2000 hours and full ATPL.

I wouldn't sweat it - i'm sure they will drag everyone out of the holding pool soon. BA has a reputation as a huge top heavy company with oodles of admin staff, I was surprised when I started to find out that is far from the truth. The pilot recruitment department is not big at all and they are all juggling about 20 balls at the moment, but are all genuine and very helpful people. The situation appears to be very fluid with potentailly significant expansion on the horizon and all sorts of recruitment being rumoured
