Advance knowledge like knowing they might ask you to divide your age by something is not going to help...

I mentioned the highest flight level question because it was more complicated than you'd think. Why? Firstly because it's not a question because you tend to ask yourself and secondly because you now have to locate the trip miles on a flight plan format you're unfamiliar with. VERY distracting.

As for the departure it was NGY 3J in GLA. My bad, it's three VORs and one NDB, not four VORs and 1 NDB. Still, have a look at it if you don't know it. If, like most of us, you never do a raw data departure it's not the easiest one!

Fair point from sharpclassic. I thought the trainer (who was a lovely chap by the way) was just trying to see how much bandwidth we had. Maybe he was tying to see if we'd stand up to ATC instead. Other lesson learned, perhaps.

Sim Pimp,

Yeah, no worries.

The sim has got hydraulic jacks, and consumes a hell of a lot of electricity. If there is fire in the building and the bridge won't come down, there are escape ropes which you throw over the side and follow the markings to the exit.

Is that what you were after?

Post a sensible question and you may get a sensible answer.

What more do you want to know? In over 90 pages, there is EVERYTHING you could possibly need to know about the sim.

Less typing, more reading.

Sim Pimp,

My answer was entirely correct. The only and exact reason for asking such trivial mental arithmetic questions is to see if you lose sight of the basic flying functions and communication. As to anything constructive to add, I'm not allowed to but I can say that there is some very useful information in this thread if you follow my drift.

I was just trying to point out that, if said poster took the time to read all these pages, he/she would find everything they need to pass the selection. It worked for me.

Hello all,

Do any of you know of how the day 1 assesmant is graded? Do you have to pass each section individually or do they look at the overall picture. Recently completed day 1 and did terribble on the maths test but I'm hopeing that I may have pulled through on the other parts

Hey,

Of those just recently informed they had passed the sim has anyone been given a start date?

Does anyone know if the initial target of 80 pilots has been met and the rest are building up the hold pool??

Hi Guys and Gals..I don't think this has been posted yet, so forgive me if it is old news.

There is a strong rumour now in the company that the next 80 guys will be Self-Sponsored pilots and that they will be recruited at some stage next year.

This would mean that, for selection, a type rating will not be required. Good luck to all ....

This may be of no help to anyone going in the sim, but maybe someone could comment and help give future sim assessment candidates a heads-up.

In the pre-sim briefing, my partner and I were expressely told not to speak up if we saw the other guy make a mistake because the trainer wanted to see if the PF would pick up on his mistake first. We were only to speak up as PNF if the mistake was safety related. We questioned this as being contrary to good CRM but the trainer reiterated that if a mistake was made on a SID or heading or inappropriate speed / flap settings etc were being flown, PNF was to keep quiet and not help out. We were even told we'd be marked down for this.

Needless to say, this unsettled us both when PNF and we were afraid to speak up as we would on a normal relaxed line flight in our current jobs.

Both of us were unsuccessful despite decent handling mainly because ( I can only guess) CRM was unnaturally hampered by what we'd been briefed by the trainer.

Any thoughts?

Wow that seems really strange. I certainly did not have that brief and we were told that there was specific attention to CRM, NOTECHs etc

It certainly seemed strange to us. It wasn't that we couldn't give DMEs or other help - just that we couldn't point out any mistakes until safety became an issue.

Skyflyer 737, I had exactly the same brief as you. I think it could be something about the way you interpreted it or how you have re-told it on here. The assessors read the brief from a script so that everybody gets a fair shot. The way I understood it was, to not point out your partners errors to make yourself look better or them worse i.e. point scoring, as this would be poor CRM. Both my sim partner and I passed. Don't forget that it's not just about the sim ride that gets you through. I've tried several times to get in, I suggest you keep trying whenever you get the chance. Good Luck.

In my case we were told to only say something if we had been asked to e.g. if PF requested to be told 1 DME before a turn that was OK, but not to actively offer information if not requested to do so (e.g. if you see PF is going to end up high on glide slope, don't say anything). I guess it was a similar brief to what captains get at my company during LPCs i.e. don't lead the FO if you think he's doing things wrong unless it's compromising safety (which is obviously NOT the case during a LOFT, where normal CRM applies). Not always easy.

Not strictly true. The 'rumour' is that there will be an easing of the valid type rating and minimum 500 hours on type requirement leading to the employment of both ex-military, self improver and SSP pilots. Not exclusively SSP. I have heard, however, that the company has been talking to the usual FTO suspects.

AFAIK almost all of the current 80 slots are filled with the possibility of it being extended by another 60 or so. All rumour and conjecture of course.

Given the information Wirbelsturm provides below about how most of the 80 places have been filled, does anyone know if the assessments which are taking place now (and continuing until April) are for vacancies or to fill a holdpool?

non-type rated recruitment

hi guys,

have heard from a couple of people that non-type rated people may get a look in come april?

does anyone here know anything about this?

Even if you accept an offer on the 737 LH might not be that far off. BA have plans to phase out the 737, I have heard circa 2014, so it could only be a three year wait anyway if you went on the 737.

Just a thought!

Express Driver,

We were told (during assesment) if we were hoping to do that then we would be sorely dissappointed. They are recruiting for rated guys only for the next few years and all LH seats being filled by the internal waiting list.

Im sure there would be a few disgruntled SH chaps if new entrants were given a LH post.

Just for clarification im not BA just passing on what I was told during my visit.
