Can anyone tell me what they define as recent experience? Is it during the last year, last 5 years?
EXEZY, since ETOPS posted this a.m., BA have clarified on the website what recency means:

Requirements


You will need:
  • A current type rating on either the Airbus A320 series or Boeing 737/757/767, with an ATPL(F) and a minimum of 500 hrs recent experience on type.
  • Please ensure you have these hours now, at the point of application.
  • for your information recency is:- flown on one of the above type(s) within the last 12months
So, you must have the 500 hours "at the point of application" (which could be done as late as the end of Jan 2011), and recency on an appropriate type "within the last 12 months". I don't think there is much room for doubt there.

As others have mentioned, the sooner your app is in, the sooner you are likely a shot at the recruiting process, and subsequent employment. Those who need a couple more months to get the 500 hours should really not apply until they actually have those hours logged. Someone will look over your log books - if your found to be fiddling data at that stage, what chances do you think you would have of BA taking you on?

Does anyone have an idea what the group exercises might entail?

The Direct Entry Pilot Scheme is for experienced high calibre pilots who want to develop their careers with one of the most progressive international airlines in the business.




Requirements


You will need:

A current type rating on either the Airbus A320 series or Boeing 737/757/767, with an ATPL(F) and a minimum of 500 hrs recent experience on type.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


You will have a full UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(F).
You will need a first class flying record and a good level of physical fitness.
You will demonstrate evidence of leadership, intellect, resilience, reliability, adaptability high personal standards, motivation, flexibility, together with well developed customer service skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.



You as a Person


You will be physically fit and in possession of a JAA/UK CAA Medical Licence (Class 1) and able to satisfy British Airways medical requirements. Please note that British Airways’ medical criteria for employment is of a higher standard than the CAA requirement.
Height between 1.57m (5'2") and 1.91m (6'3") with weight in proportion to height (height is accurately determined during the assessment process). Qualified pilots who are taller than 1.91m may submit an application but will be required to undergo a functionality check to confirm their ability to meet the requirements of the seating positions in the British Airways fleet of aircraft.
You will have fluency in spoken and written English.

Is the current info on pilot jobs network correct wrt dep package?

Which fleet would someone with 5500T (2500 737 and 2500 757) most likely end up on? Anyone know?

Pretty much as posted on PPJN as DEP.

The pension is BARP which is a money purchase scheme based on your basic not inclusive of additional pay. Expect an additional income somewhere in the region of £12-15000 per annum in variable pay on SH dependant on how much the blind line you get is worth.

ANyones guess as to what fleet, the A320 fleet at LHR is getting extra airframes into next year and the mini Airbus fleet at LGW is being wound down. The 737 fleet has been threatened with closure since the day it was opened and seems to be struggling on regardless.

With BA it is where you are needed not what you are qualified on. They expect you to be able to fly anything and have the training facilities to get you up to speed on any aircraft very quickly.

It's worth noting that you do not need to have this when you apply, just a JAA licence. If successful, then you will be required to change to a UK JAA version. The application process makes this clear.

Frozen ATPL (i.e. CPL/IR with ATPL theory). However, the actual application form seems to only talk about unfrozen ATPLs!

FWIW, there is a reference to "Frozen ATPL" in LASORS, but it isn't defined there.

When you apply for the DEP (REF UKLHR1118), before logging in you need to answer some questions. Once you´ve done that you can log in with the email and password from the previous application and you will be taken to the new application. Most of the information will be there from previous times, but some answers will be blank (The essay type questions). Hope I haven´t confused you even more....

A frozen ATPL (CPL / IR with ATPL theory) is usually written as fATPL.
The ATPL(F) alluded to in the application, i'm guessing is an ATPL - Fixed wing, as opposed to an ATPL(H).

The application form makes it clear that you must have an ATPL - although it does say that it can be from any JAA state, but must be changed to a UK issued licence if your application is successful

I think ATPL(F) actually refers to the fATPL you mention 757_Driver, as usually the fixed wing ATPL seems to be referred to as ATPL(A), however I stand to be corrected of course as the case may be!

pre312s,

I think it's the best thing to do. I want to get the form in quickly but I think taking a bit of extra time making sure you optimise your chances is the way forward.
