Personally I wouldn't put my finger anywhere near the screen - you may have been lucky and the invigilator just wasn't looking.
For the sake of a possible automatic fail I would try and do it like everyone else, safe in the knowledge that even those who pass the whole thing generally are pants at that test!
Most people I know try and remember the directions with some sort of movement and repeat it (eg tracing on the desk with your finger or moving your head (up = north right = east etc) if you constantly repeat this as you are taking in the info you overcome the 8 unrelated items limitation by practicing (all that human factors flooding back now!) and you just need to remember the 4 distances.

Ropey Pilot,
Anything that helps and is NOT against the rules can be a benefit. There was no specific instruction about how you conduct the test, just don't touch the screen. Easy. How you interpret those instruction as to achieve the result you require is up to you. Each to his own.
I did okay at the micro blabble and seemed to do okay at the rest too. Always, always, always try to achieve the best possible result in everything because you never know when you may need it.

Wobble,
Not calling you a cheater or anything, just warning future candidates!
Wouldn't dare being rude to one of my future colleagues!
The "finger on the desk" technique worked for me

Personally, I found this part of the MicroPAT test the hardest. I found the best way to approach it after a few different attempts was as follows:
Take the instruction given and convert it into the opposite direction. So if it says 10 south, convert that to 10 up. 20 west would be 20 right. and 5 east would be 5 left etc.
So as an example where 4 instuctions are given:
1 - 10 south - this becomes Up 10
2 - 20 east - this is Left 20 and combined with the last instruction the current location of the airfield is Up 10, Left 20
3 - 30 north - this is Down 30, and now makes the airfield at Down 20, Left 20
4 - 10 east - this is Left 10, and the airfield is now Down 20, Left 30.
Keep repeating the sub-total in your head after each instuction so you don't forget it.
Of course it gets harder when they start putting in diagonal instructions (se, ne, sw, nw). Remember 20 south west isn't the same as 20 south and 20 west - it's about 17 south and 17 west.
At the end of the day, this test is just a small fraction of the entire assessment.

I've been mailed for my assessment today. Unfortunatelly the last date reported on the website is 24 november. I won't have 3 days off for the company I'm actually flying for. Do you think it will be published other dates in december or january or the date published theese days are deadline? Many thanks, from Italy

Are there a lot of tech questions in the interview? I am ashamed to say that is not my strongest subject...
Anyway, back to trying to find suitable answers to all those lovely 'Give us an example when...'-questions!
Everybody thanx for all the info, very much appreciated!

Hi Guys,
Just wondering how long it takes to hear after day 1, as to whether or not you'll be offered a sim ride? If you don't hear that evening or the next day should you expect a PFO?
Cheers!
