ba holding pool...splash

Hi Guys,

reading all the posts, I wondered if there are guys out there in a similar position to me.

I passed the initial assessment/interview, but was(on the day which was not very motivating) that no sim slots avaialable and we would be put into a holding pool pending a sim date with the usual years life-span.

Anyone else out there in similar circumstances??????????

SSP bashing

sorry, why are u bashing SSPs? Jealous because a 21yr old gets 40k a yr and RHS on a shorthaul jet?

How else is ba going to recruit young/new blood into the company?

All ssps know they dont get handed a job on a plate. They have to work bloody hard to get there.

There is a reason behind the logic of creaming off the best students from fto courses into ba.

To those ssp's affected. get a desk job somewhere and wait it out. im sure theyll have courses by next summer/autumn. remember ba have already spent 5k on you, and will probs get u in before the DEPs in the pool.

good luck

Personally, not really. I was in the RHS of a LH jet at 21, and in the LHS at 25, and it didn't cost me 80 or 90 grand to get there. I'm sure I was also devilishly handsome....

Good luck to all in the pool, including the DEPs with families and mortgages to support.

Now, where did I leave that coat.....

(Pre-edited to add: tongue firmly in cheek, back on thread now?)

wasteofspace 101,

I can't resist either.

I wasn't getting paid 40k at 21, but i was learning to run around low level at 480kts and the quickest way to destroy my liver. If only I had had the balls to take a loan at barclays and aim higher.

your quite right, the 5k outlay will ensure that we take all the type rated and experienced DEPs after the 'cream' of the crop from the world famous and highly respected fto's. im sure there is not another cost stat thats got to do with base training requiremant these superstars bring wih them.

anyways lets hope they all get jobs asap and that we all have companys to work for in the coming difficult months.

also getting my coat.........

HeavyHeavy, why are you so bitter about the attitude of your SSPs?

Aerospace101,

I'm pretty sure I can say that not one person on this forum has a problem with the SPP cadets. We all wanted to be pilots. We all worked hard. We all did it different ways. That was our choice.

However, once you get a job with an airline, you will very quickly learn that the best way NOT to go very far in this industry is to be Mr Cocky Im So Great 200 Hours. There are more captains out there than you've had hot dinners who will knock you off your high horse before you've even had time to don your new Top Gun Ray-Bans.

The issue people have is with comments such as "It's a shame to put low houred pilots in such a position, no-one wants to leave the hold pool to go to another airline, but many have huge debts mounting up!" by RYR738_driver.

Agreed no-one wants to leave the holding pool to go elsewhere, but in your position, can you really chose to be picky with such debts mounting up? Im sure there are a number of people in this pool who could have got into BA earlier in their careers but went of elsewhere to start just because there was a job there.

And then your comments. "Jealous because a 21yr old gets 40k a yr and RHS on a shorthaul jet?" and "There is a reason behind the logic of creaming off the best students from fto courses into ba......To those ssp's affected. get a desk job somewhere and wait it out. im sure they ll have courses by next summer/autumn. remember ba have already spent 5k on you, and will probs get u in before the DEPs in the pool."

Flashing your cash and 'cream of the crop' status at captains who started flying before you were born will, I promise you, not go down well in the RHS of your aeroplane. As for thinking the SSP guys will probably get in before the DEPs in the pool, put yourself in BAs shoes.... Pay an extra £20,000 for an A320 type rating for a 21 year old 200hrs lad or get in a A320 type rated 23 year old with 1000 hours on type. You chose.

When you can walk the walk, then you can talk the talk.

Now, pull your trousers up and run along to class and let's get this thread back on track

P.S Oxford, right?

My point was those SSPs worked hard, and done well to achieve it. Theres a difference between achieving that and being a c*ck of 200hr f/o.

PS. No FTE, and I wasnt one of those 'creamed' off into BA

Alright guys lets all just calm down shall we and get this thread back on to topic as I think it has started to turn unnessersarily nasty. Do the professional thing and put what has been said behind you.

With BA's lack of recruitment at the moment I would anticipate this thread to go very quiet for a few months until someone has something useful and substantial to say.
There's nothing more irritating than to receive an email saying the thread has been updated and then to follow the link to read bitching amongst PPruNers or equally to read a useless information post contained within what used to be a really useful thread!!

Rant over - Looking forward to useful updates (after Christmas at the earliest I guess).

I think it will be longer than Xmas before we hear the good news again, unfortunately. I am waiting for my 12 month exile to come to an end in the next few months.

I heard that during and after the early 1990's recession, BA closed their doors to recruitment for quite a few years. I sincerely hope this is not the case this time round, although I am struggling to see why it should be any different.

Aerospace101,

If you can't take the banter on a public forum then there is surely no hope for you!

I have nothing against SSP's, you want to spend the entire of your aviation career flying a pressurised aluminum tube around the skies following the green/magenta line, fantastic. Personally I don't think I could have taken the boredom from the age of 21 so you have achieved a great deal.

RYR738_driver made himself a soft target with his comments about pitying the poor SSP's with debts, I would like to extend my best wishes to ALL in the pool, not just those poor souls who have bought their license and now must live with the debt of their choice.

Hopefully this 'boom but it's not a bust coz Gordo says its not' will be over in 12-18 months and then the doors will open again, until then good luck to all, especially those with kids and mortgages to pay. (not that I'm biased though)!

Right, on with the thread.........

Any of you guys in a similar position? I went for a DEP sim assessment in early October and am still waiting to hear the outcome... No e-mail but then no phone call either. To those guys that went into the pool recently (if any), how long did it take before you got the call? I know its a little academic at the mo but I'll feel so much better knowing either way.

Any thoughts?

Hold Pool Extension

Hi

I heard from somebody quite "reliable" that it (see above) is being seriously considered.

My "reliable" source is not the training manager but nor is he the recruitment manager's sister's brothers' friend's cat!!!

Personally hope it's true!
