Oh God! Hope we're not rolling back the advances in CRM over the last decade or so..! :-)
(Just to lighten the mood a bit.)
Thats almost like the other day I was told by a Captain: 'Old boy do you know what the speed brake lever is called when you operate it? The lever of shame! Do you know what its called when I use it? The precision lever!!' ;-p
But on a serious note, I don't discuss such things on the FD anymore. Can cause heated debates - believe me I have had a couple of experiences (and I'm a reasonable guy ;-D). Rather not go there anymore.
Of course if all these revisions in recruitment numbers by BA is a smoke screen then even better, gives us a fighting chance. But I genuinely believe aviation in Britain is being choked off.
Nevertheless, good luck all..!

For want of not wanting to be put in the 'BlackandBrown' category, I will drop it. But only time will tell folks. (I hate that guy) :-p

A good discussion involves accepting that the other person has a different opinion and respecting that whilst using reasoned argument to try to gently convince them that their viewpoint might be flawed in respect to your viewpoint. Such discussion can be very useful in whiling away the time on a long trans-atlantic to Barbados for example, something I think you don't know anything about.
Interestingly, on a similar trip, we got round to discussing the reduction in recruitment and an interesting idea came forward which was the FPP. They will be recruited on different pay scales and pensions and thus will cost far less in the future. Which will BA rather cull back now and invest in into the future we wondered?
Obviously the musings of a bored crew but interesting nonetheless.
MikeHotel, you're welcome.

The first 380's are due next year with the initial TRE and TRI courses being started in Toulouse soon.
The 787 is a variable feast but the initial airframes are expected sometime next year with the first pilots serving their 'year' on the 777 fleet this training year.
The 2015 fleet is expecting approx 8 A380's and, I think, about 12 787's.
(Current total orders 12 x A380, 24 x 787)

BlackandBrown, im not going to even bother with you. But just to say that your analysis of me must remind you of somebody else. Ironic isn't it…
Wirbelsturm, since I'm not not the FD I prefer to use my candid and stripped down approach regarding this matter - saves a lot of time. (Believe me when I say I have come to this conclusion after much discussion also on said long haul flights.) If in future I'm proved wrong then Im happy to change my position.
So I suppose they're not delaying any of the two new types then…..?

Alright, trying to keep a positive frame of mind then:
as katanapilot said, having spoken to a mate of mine at BA, the 744 not coming back from the desert was not initally part of the manpower plans anyway, so now there's 2 sources "confirming" it.
The other thing I was wondering is whether the crewing requirements for the additional 777s have been met, thus releasing bottom slots on other types for DEPs. Wirbelsturm/wiggy being in the know, you might be able to hazard an "informed guess"? I was told that after STBE-F another 2 will be coming (converted options).
At the moment people seem to be getting start dates with no more delay than that advised at interview time.

Effects of Air Passenger Duty on Recruitment numbers, hold pool wait
A question to anyone on the inside who might know the answer - is there any official or grapevine mention of how people currently in between assessment phases, or even in the hold pool, might be affected by the introduction of the APD? I refer for instance to this recent article in the Sun which mentions pilit recruitment would be cut. But it is the Sun after all...

737 after August??
Kempus, Are you sure? After August would be bad news as I am likely to fall out of the pool way before then - what's your info based on? Do you know the facts or were you guessing?
