Turbine Question

I am sitting a Basic Gas Turbine exam tommorow and have a question

What does it mean when the compressor is choked and surging? What causes each event and what does it actually do?

The surging is a severe stall across the entire face of the compressor--caused by a total stoppage or reversal of airflow--which can cause flameouts and even structural damage in some cases.
