A380 Hydraulics
Looks like the 380 will be first commercial airliner with a 5000 psi hydraulic system

Not sure if the old parafin pencil (Concorde) was there first? I know it is >3K psi possibly 4 or 5K? Had a terrible Hydraulic fluid different to any other as well.

One has to wonder what happens when a 5000PSI hydraulic line breaks ? A 5000 pound spray of hydraulic oil is like a saw - I think FlowSystems water knife operates at 5000 PSI or something.. thats why these things have not been used in the past - Concerning the Concorde oil - I dont know of anything nastier than Sydrol ..
|
Yes - Skydrol in the eye is extremely unpleasant !
|
Sydrol on you ****** is even worse - when I got my A&P they used to tell us - take "our" word for it - you need to wash your hands prior to going to the watercloset when working with Skydrol - US military Ive been told still uses mineral based oils . Skydrol is one of the few note worthy things developed by McDonnell Douglas .. the other things do not include Harry Stonecipher by the way ..

I believe that Concorde is 4000 psi, as are the Buccaneer and Tomcat (not commercial airliners but still aircraft with higher than normal hydraulic pressures).
