777 engine pod - big as 737 fus?

I keep hearing it quoted that a 777 engine pod is the same diameter as a 737 fuselage. As much as I'd like to believe it, after having seen one up close, and seeing a guy standing in it, I find it hard to believe!

The guy standing up nearly reached from top to bottom, so trying to picture the intake as the cross section of a 737 was a little hard to swallow.... ;)

What is the truth behind this 'fact'?

Nish.

The outside diameter of the engine cowling, on the 777 with the GE90, is roughly the same diameter of the Boeing narrow-body fuselage. I believe that the other 2 engines have smaller diameter fans, thus smaller cowlings. Hope that clears things up for you.
On a side note the GE90 fan is 123" in diameter (10'3")!

Your question is answered on the B777 - B737 thread, including a photo comparing the two.

Is the rumour true that for the bidrstrike test, they fed the GE90 a surplus 737? :D
