Sheep Guts,
Usually done at every other prof check at companies where i've worked. L10 and B707.....split the spoilers (some work, some don't) and use the speed brake lever for pitch control. On the TriStar, worked good...the 707 was a handful. However, on the runway...probably not enough time. Usually done after liftoff in the initial climb. Can recall a company where I had just joined (first sim period, but experienced on type) where the sim malfunctioned, very rapid pitchup after takeoff to about 30 degrees, rapidly falling airspeed. Split the spoilers and used the speed brake for pitch control. The brand new First Officer had NO idea what I was doing, so the instructor froze the sim (or attempted to) and tore a strip off the guy...and with good reason, because the procedure was in the abnormals in big RED letters. |
