brake temperatures

Fellows,
Landing on a tandem bogie, which brake gets the hottest? why?

FlapsOne 5th November 2002 20:58

Landing doesn't make brakes hot.....stopping does.

The hottest brake will probably be the one you put your hoof on hardest.

Picard,
Incomplete question. On a max stop where the Anti-Skid operates then it is probably the front unit that gets more braking effect - hence more heat. However on a less than max effort stop the rear units will usually be hotter due to disrupted airflow cooling. This will be variable depending upon CofG and elevator position / point of brake application. This is a "discuss / comment" rather than absolute.

But then it depends when you take the the temps. Thermal lag being what it is ...

Not a good answer - but not a brilliant question either...

I think we've had this question before .... :) Or was it Deja vu?

Always the newest brake, freshly installed, with the thickest pads.
