B767 engine failure
B767 FCTM states with engine failure after takeoff, at acceleration height select VS 200 fpm climb. Why not use FLCH with speed increase as in B737 and B747-400 (assuming VNAF not to be used or not available). Thanks

Probably because FLCH logic is based on 2 engine operation and the AT would go from TO to CLB thrust. After an engine failure selecting V/S 0-200fpm keeps the AT in THR HOLD and uses the excess power to accelerate for flap retraction.

I'm second guessing myself now, V/S should also give you climb thrust and annoyingly you've quoted me so I can't even correct myself! I'll try to find an FCOM later...
For engine fire/severe damage/separation you'd turn the AT arm switch off as a memory item and thus get TO power all the way to flaps up. Some operators use this checklist for engine failure with flap out, others have no memory items and leave the AT armed until the QRH comes out. In either case I think the 0-200fpm is to prioritise acceleration over climb. |
We used 100FPM

NTFP 3rd segment is a level acceleration. We achieve this by VS 0-200. In a previous airline it was ALT HOLD, pause, ALT HOLD. Once @ ref+80 select FLCH to maintain that speed for the rest of the climb.
