B737 deadbolt positions for ground use only

Goodday,

I was scrolling through my B737 manual when I found the following placard which is placed above the deadbolt on a B737 flight deck door. Does anyone know why Boeing states on this placard for ground use only?

Rgds,

Possibly because of the obvious problems in the case of pilot incapacitation if the dead bolt is on. Using it in a security situation is an airline specific SOP, and pretty pointless. You can always use the deny function on the door control to stop anyone gaining access by the electronic lock. And before the subject comes up this is all in the public domain so no help to potential hijackers.

Why bring it up on a public forum? Just ask your Tech Manager!

Deadbolt is there for a reason. The electronic lock might not work as expected in all scenarios, deadbolt will.
