Flight time log. Instructor

Hi,

I just received remark that line training and check times cannot be logged as instructor time.

Any opinions (or even better EASA regulations references) how flight (instructorial) time should be logged?

I`m TRI/TRE and logged some LTCC hours in the same column (Instructor), and, it lloks right now from Authority, I logged too much hours...

Need to reference the EASA, don't have it to hand. If my memory serves me correctly, you can only log zero flight time training as instructor time... Sorry that I don't have a reference, it was been a while.

In this link you may find the JAR FCL 1.080 related to Recording of Flight Time.

I know, it is old, it is JAR and not EASA, it is from the Greek CAA... but it is the only thing I've got to offer just now, maybe it can shed some light.

It might be better to post this in the FE/Instructors forum. All the EASA regulations are available online, as I'm sure you know, so you can find the Aircrew bits here: https://www.easa.europa.eu/en/docume...eu-no-11782011 As I'm not a TRI myself, I can't find the relevant bits quickly. Recording of flight time is now FCL.050 but I don't think it covers this situation.

Under EASA regulations, LIFUS isn't training, so "students" are deemed fully qualified as far as FCL is concerned, and therefore you can't log instructor time. It's just plain old PIC time, however you can log time in a separate column to keep track of it, if you wish.

And for line checks, it won't even be PIC, since with most airlines, you can't be PIC from the jumpseat.

That is correct. And that is also where our colleagues do unfortunately come up with all sorts of creative solutions.
To recap for the OP: LIFUS is PIC regardless of the title you are holding and nothing else. For an initial line check after LIFUS you are still PIC. Depending on airlines/authorities you may have to seat in the front or might seat on the JS with a qualified FO/CPT in the front.
For annual line checks you are on the JS and not PIC but as well not copilot, so this is where it becomes a grey area.
