what are these audible / voice runway incursion warnings called?
Hi all -- a very quick question for you.
A friend of mine was flying in a private jet recently, and on landing he got to sit up front. He said two new things were really interesting: 1) on exiting runway, there was an audible voice saying, "crossing Runway 1R" and 2) during landing, the voice also was saying "4,000 feet remaining" Do you all know what this system is called? And what cockpit system it runs off of / data it is using? (It was new to me too because from watching landing recordings, I hadn't heard such voiced warnings before, aside from the altitude countdowns: "100, 50, 40,...") Thanks! |
Thanks a lot!

In the Boeing 737 it is called RAAS, Runway advisory and Alerting System.

Know irreverently and colloquially as "Bitching Betty" and/or "Nagging Nora"
