Retard/idle
Hi i was just wanting to know if there is a difference between "RETARD" and "IDLE".
thanks |
Flyboy,
"Retard" is a display or aural command to bring the thrust to IDLE, can be acheived by the pilot or the autopilot. "Idle" is the actual minimum thrust setting of the engine (in a particular stage of flight, i.e on the B738 there's flight idle, approach idle and ground minimum idle. Hope this helps. Nial |
'Retard' is also a very French-sounding word!
Oh yes, these planes come from Toulouse guys, and not from anywere else....;) |
sabenapilot (hmm, sabena?? more likely datpilot) don't forget the god ol' boeing. Mine says everytime i have AT armed, but not engaged, "Retard" on the FMA from 27' to touchdown, and thats the old 733.

Must hate it when the aircraft starts talking to the other pilot
