Grob 2C
Does anyone out there have more detail on the power plants on this aircraft - as far as I can tell it was powered by two TSIOL-550s (what is the L for?) turning large 6m diameter props (must have been geared, but no GTSIO) and both piston engines were fed by the gas generator of a PW127. How did this work?
Why not a couple of PW127s as normal turboprop installations - what is the advantage of piston / turbine hybrid? What sort of CHTs would you get at 60,000ft! I thought it would be beyond normal piston engine metallurgy. |
There is quite a lot more info on the german wikipedia page about why a piston engine was chosen.

Since the wikipedia article talks about big coolers for water cooling mounted in the cowlings, the L might mean Liquid cooled ?
Thats the link to the article: Grob G 850 ? Wikipedia |
