Approach climb

Hello, got the following problem.

Was looking for the approach climb gradient chart in the AFM. As we all know, a double engine aircraft needs to have a climb gradient of 2.1%. This required gradient, is this gross or net? In the chart they always give an gross gradient outcome, but i thought that gross was only being used for test pilots flying under perfect conditions etc.
Somebody can give me more explanations?
tx

Yes, gross.

Gradient, provided on charts, are gross and includes 30/50 meters obstacle clearance. Gross/net flight path definition are not provided in Doc 8168.

Tx for your reply. But somehow iwas afraid to get this answer. Reason? Gross is if flown by a testpilot with a brand new ac in perfect conditions. I would say net sounds better since thebac is not new and the pilot is an average skilled pilot.
