Aircraft Wheels Numbering System
During aircraft firefighting operations we are required to inform and relay to the flight crew problems affecting the aircraft gears. We usually number the wheels from front to back and left to right. Could you please indicate where we could find some technical information on wheels numbering system?
Thank you. |
Left to Right, Front or rear. 1-2-3-4-etc.
1-2-3-4 front or 1-2-3-4 rear if airplane has a four wheel truck or more. Not sure it is written down anywhere but manuals are written that way. |
Airbus A330-200.....main gear bogie looking forward from tail to nose and left to right the front wheels are 1:2:3:4 and the rear wheels are 5:6:7:8
If I knew how to copy a PDF diagram I would put a nice picture here as well. |
Why has my typed in number eight (8) done that????:8
|
left to right front to back aft looking forward.
except Boeing and Airbus do it differently! B747 1 2 -----------13 14 3 4 5 6---9 10-15 16 ----7 8--11 12 A330 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Keep it simple as half the crews don't know how they are numbered! ;) We often get left front right body gear, instead of 9. |

Boeing 757 767 Main Gear
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 But not sure where it is 'written down' in any Manuals available to Flight Crew (Pilots). Any one taken a look in Maintainence Manuals? |
So how are the A380 wheels numbered, and come to that what about the A340 variants?

The wheels are in the right place when I type this above, but comes out like this when I click done
|
The Mighty C-5
NW: left to right it was 1,2,3,4 Mains: Bogies numbered: FWD pair 1 and 2 AFT pair 3 and 4 On each bogie: FWD pair was A, AFT Left was B, AFT Right was C; left was 1, right was 2. Sooooo.....a left aft bogie, forward pair, right tire (tyre?) was the 3A2 Sad, I remember such trivia... |
Compiling the above and what I know, the best generic is left to right first and then the aft mains counting first then body or center in the same respect.

soooo...Ottowa,
personally, I would go back to the ground vehicle nomenclature you are all used to, and just add more numbers... perhaps the one that is smoking red hot with flames works as well... |
