C17 joysticks
Does anyone knows if the central joysticks on the C17 are coupled in movement or if they are independant with a priority knob , a la Airbus ?
|
They seem to be the equivalent of a control wheel mounted on a control column. I don't see any point of rotation at the base of the stick itself, but one lower below the square box at the junction with the control column.
I would guess they are coupled. http://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/11/75/17/84/af447_13.jpg http://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/11/75/17/84/af447_27.png |
What is the point? Catering to the nintendo generation? Cross contamination from fighter acft to cargo? I have come to accept the Airbus sidestick years ago but what is the advantage of this config?

but what is the advantage of this config? |
somewhere completely unnatural and non ergonomic Sorry :(it was just asking to be said and couldn't help myself:p |
But wouldn't it then be unnatural when you got your command and swapped hands? It would take forever.... :E
|
you must be used to hold the joy stick in that place of course it is natural for us to find it there, and use it with both hands, for me Airbus did the right choice to put it on a side:E:E

The original C17 had a yoke, and then they put a stick and the test pilots felt like they had better control so they kept it that way, but I wonder how subjective or objective those results were. I think the stick is in the middle because MD had experience with the F15, but that is just speculation.
And to answer the original question, both sticks definitely move together. |
