Moderate Turbulence After T/O
Share Your Experience
After Take Off - Around 1500 Feet AGL - Imedietly after Flap Retraction - While speed increasing towards Green Dot- AC Entered moderate Turbulence - Speed acceleration became almost Negative and Falling towards VLS.:ugh: What your Action would Be ? |
May I suggest the standard drill for windshear encounter?
|
Well so what if you hit VLS? You're not going to fall out of the
bloody sky. In Normal L you still have a few knots in the area between VLS and VaProt. Its VaProt you want to keep an eye on. Besides you also have alpha/speed lock function of the slats. If you're twitchy just TOGA the damn thing. |
Reduce the pitch angle ..if that doesnt help then give it bit more grunt?
Just fly the thing! is it really so hard?:ugh: |
Which one would you perfer, Windshear TOGA
Or just Disconnect AP pitch Down To increase Speed, Then Return To normal OPS. |
You'll have to make that judgement call on the day BUT the a/c is fitted with reactive Windshear system so it may decide for you in the end!!
As others have said, just fly the damn plane. :ok: |
Hi Captain BH,
Since you were above 1500ft, the Speed acceleration became almost Negative (so it was still positive - yes?), I would simply have reduced the ROC - level off if necessary. As other posters have commented - it really isn't rocket science. FCOM 1.22.40 "The windshear detection function is provided by the Flight Augmentation Computer (FAC) in takeoff and approach phase in the following conditions : At takeoff, 3 seconds after liftoff, up to 1300 feet RA" |
Guys the poster didn't say he was in windshear, he said he
hit turbulence which knocked a few knots off his ASI during cleanup. From his description it didn't sound like WS, but just your garden-variety thermals on a nice Summer's 48C day in the ME. |
Yep true, so disregard my reactive Windshear comment !!
|
I guess what you've seen while passing through light windshear was speed barely increasing and Vls going up and catching up on actual speed as high lift devices were retracting. If so, I simply can not understand where did you depart normal ops and what made you feel the urge to return to them.

well no signs of windshear ( no major change in wind velocity & or direction )
accept those bumpy wet coulds, imiedietly after clean up speed still below green dot increasing towards 250 kts, the turbulence started, Speed almost jammed below GR DOT then dropped few knots heading towards VLS , it hitted the VLS, and dropped below it ( the top of yellow or amber scale of the speed ) almost half way between vls and aprot personal action was level of the aircraft then decsend 100 Ft, maintaining CLB thrust, aircraft speed recovered flight back to normal Please criticize the action above , thanks:ok: |
If it happened in real life, you would hear all critique you need and a bit more from your safety department via FDM.
I would like to thank you for opening this thread as without it, it would never cross my mind to search through your previous post and my life would be duller for it. Take care! C |
