AUTO MODE of Transponder

Hello,

What is the difference between ALT mode, AUTO mode and ON mode of Transponder?

ALT turns on both the mode A transponder and the mode C altitude reporting.

On turns on only the mode A, for use when the mode C altitude reporting is not working properly.

Auto is the preferred setting, and will turn on both mode A and mode C, as well as mode S when applicable.
