A320 brake temp
I've gonne thru the various discussions, but is it clear that brake energy
certification (RTOW) was achieved using indicated brake temp of 150c ? Hence not to be exceeded when rwy limited? thank you. |
The only limitation in my FCOM is to delay take off until the brakes are below 300 degs with brake fans off, or indicating below 150 degs with the fans on (basically the same actual temp).

The limit is primarily to guard against the brakes getting overheated in an RTO. That applies whether you are rwy limited or not. I understood(and was told) the limit had to do with that fact that there are no wheel well fire detectors and ensuring that the temperature was below 300˚ reduced the risk that hot brakes could ignite leaking hydraulic fluid. |
...Is the correct answer! Flashpoint of skydrol etc:D

Maybe there is more than just one reason. How about the fusible wheel plugs? The main point I wanted to make is that the limit applies independent of rwy length.
