bank high during landing

hi guys, does anyone know how much degrees of bank angle will cause the engine or the wing tip touch(whichever touch the groud first rather than the wheels), great appreciation~~
:confused::confused:

which aircraft?

citizensun 15th August 2010 15:28

ooooops, sorry~
737-700 and 737-800(which i think is the same answer to both)

It actually varies with pitch, and there is a crossover at +1° BA. Any lower pitch will give Nacelle contact, a higher body attitude will result in flap fairing contact (assuming flaps 40°). That said: (all for 737-800)

Flap Track Fairing makes contact at +12.2° pitch & 9.7° bank, this is also a pitch limit for a tailstrike. The bank limit increases as BA lessens to +1° to 17° bank. At that point there is a simultanious contact of the nacelle as well as the flap track fairing. Then, as pitch decreases further to -4° (bank required to get this low, at 0° bank the nosegear touches at -.8°) the bank limit becomes 11°.

for the -700 the maximum pitch values for tailstrike increase, and the limits for bank at those tailstrike values are slimmer.

If this may seem difficult to imagine, a detailed graph can be found in the FCTM Chapter 6 under Flare and Touchdown.

For the -800 (quoting from the FCTM 6.28) at a roll angle of 11 degrees both nose gear and engine nacelle will hit the runway at a pitch of -4°. Thats the minimum roll to cause an engine strike, at 17° bank and 1° pitch up both flap track fairing and engine will hit the concrete...
