A320-200 Final Approach Thrust Setting

With IAE engines. I've had a look with the search function, but no joy.

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for N1 to set established on slope? In particular a simple and easy to remember relationship between N1 and GW for Config 3 and 4.

There is some guidance in the QRH in the Unreliable Speed section, but its not quite what I'm after.

Many thanks.

None of those rules of thumb do work for the bus because of the g/s min function. Use the brain cells for phonenumbers that īll keep you out of trouble.

On the V2500, try about 1.05 or so with Config Full and about 1.03 with Config 3. The TLA will be just about the same as it is when you take the active and set the thrust initially to let it stabilise.

From that point you can certainly "fine tune" it as you need.

Thanks Phil

Hadn't heard of that one.

Keep an eye on the speed trend vector and vary your thrust accordingly. You don't even need to look at the engine display. I'm sure that's what I do because even though I have over 3000 hours on the thing, I couldn't tell you what EPR setting I use!

Agree about the speed trend. 5000 lbs/hr is a good starting point for either 1 or 2 engines.
