737NG Flap Asymmerty

Hello,

On the 737NG if trailing edge flap asymmetry is detected by the FSEU the flaps will automatically stop to avoid making the asymmetry worse. The FCOM states:

Trailing Edge Flap Asymmetry and Skew

When the FSEU detects a trailing edge asymmetry or skew condition the FSEU:

• closes the TE flap bypass valve
• displays a needle split on the flap position indicator.

My question is, if you are selecting landing flap and you have a split and try and go around will you be able to retract the flaps to 15? From the above, NO?

a TE flap asy is a rather major problem. most likely some of the mechanical parts of the flap drive mechanical are f'ed-up. so moving the flap is not a good idea since it would most likely increase the asy condition causing roll....

Yup, sounds like I'll have to try this one in the sim and hopefully not on line.

Not in normal ops. As long the FSEU detects an Asymmetrie the bypass VLV is locked. The only way to move the flaps would be alternate. There the Asymmetrie is not monitored.
