Yet another Airbus FBW question

Forgive yet another FBW question, this time from a layman:

In Normal/Alternate Law, will the aircraft immediately react to G changes caused by gusts (as distinct from anything the pilot does with the side stick).

So, for example, flying along in the cruise, with no auto-pilot engaged, straight and level with no side stick input (1g), if a large angle of attack change occurs due to a gust/turbulence, will the aircraft immediately command an elevator movement to pro actively return to 1g? Or, if the pilot is commanding max positive G through back stick, and a gust suddenly adds another few G, does the aircraft immediately react and reduce to the commanded G, based on Aoa/speed/G sensing?

I'm a bit rusty but I think it will react but it's not an instant process. If you hit an updraft that causes you +2G you'll probably be out of it before the aircraft reacts as these things tend to be transient.
