Embraer 135/14* Cockpit
 

I recently flew as a passenger on the Embraer and noticed that there was a step up into the cockpit, but the seats seemed to be low down/same level as step, almost as if the crew would have to in a lower position.. Can anyone explain how the layout of the embraer works? Seemed a little cramped from the outsite view.
